Physint Can’t Just Be Hideo Kojima’s Next Metal Gear Solid

Death Stranding felt like a completely new experience, a major shift from most games, and a big change for Kojima Productions after years of making the Metal Gear Solid series. Their new project, Physint, seems to be a return to the action and espionage themes of classic Metal Gear Solid games. It’s great to see Kojima and his team exploring stealth again, but Physint would be stronger if it wasn’t so heavily influenced by Solid Snake’s style.

It’s likely that the new game, *Physint*, will share some elements with the *Metal Gear Solid* series – that’s common when a studio revisits a familiar genre. *Metal Gear Solid* was full of innovative ideas, and it wouldn’t make sense to abandon them completely. However, Kojima Productions needs to surprise players, not just deliver what they anticipate. While many might enjoy a *Metal Gear* game with a new title, a truly exciting approach would be to capture the *feeling* and inspiration of *Metal Gear*, rather than simply recreating its features.

Physint Should Go in a Different Direction

Metal Gear Solid games are known for their innovative gameplay and constantly surprising players – they never play it safe. While a game focused purely on classic sneaking – a tough guy quietly moving through a base and hiding – could still be good, it wouldn’t be very exciting if the developers just repeated familiar ideas.

Look, I’ve been playing Metal Gear for ages, and it’s always been a series that tries new things. But let’s be real, Hideo Kojima definitely likes to reuse ideas. *Metal Gear Solid* had a ton of scenes straight out of the original *Metal Gear* games, and *Metal Gear Solid 2* actually built its whole story *around* how similar it was to the first one. Even in *Death Stranding 2*, I’m spotting references to the older games everywhere. It’s cool that he acknowledges his past work, and it’s usually pretty interesting, but honestly? I think it’s time for him to really move on and do something totally fresh.

While promoting each new Metal Gear game, Hideo Kojima consistently expressed his desire to move on to different projects. It would be disappointing to see him revisit the series simply to satisfy fans who are eager for more of the same. He’s acknowledged the strong desires of Metal Gear fans and how they’ve influenced him, once stating in 2012 that he’d continue to deliver as long as there was demand.

This isn’t to suggest he always does exactly what his fans want. But Kojima is a truly original creator, and it would be disappointing if he felt pressured to return to more traditional, stealth-based gameplay. Considering how *Death Stranding 2* seemed like a relatively safe sequel, it’s understandable to be a little worried that his next project, *Physint*, might also be overly cautious in an attempt to satisfy fan expectations.

Physint‘s Mysterious “Movie” Descriptor Is Intriguing

Even at this early stage, there are several reasons to be optimistic about *Physint* and its potential to be a truly unique game. Hideo Kojima consistently strives to create games that break from traditional formulas and have a distinct style, and *Physint* will be no different. Because it features entirely new lore, *Physint* will offer a completely different gameplay experience compared to the *Metal Gear Solid* series. Just as *Death Stranding*’s unique mechanics – like timefall and BTs – were born from its specific world, *Physint* will likely have its own innovative tools and features. Kojima has also mentioned incorporating cinematic elements, which is a promising direction the studio hasn’t fully explored before.

Information about *Physint* is still limited. Kojima has so far only shared a few details: the three actors starring in the project, a poster, his intention to blend film and gaming, and his collaboration with PlayStation. The poster features a mysterious figure in a sneaking suit, reminiscent of Solid Snake, but clearly a new character. While this connection is interesting, *Physint* should ultimately establish its own unique identity and story.
