Pixar Characters Take Over Iconic Marvel Covers to Celebrate Studio’s 40th Anniversary

For decades, Pixar has created many of the most popular and cherished animated movies, including classics like Toy Story, The Incredibles, Inside Out, Monsters, Inc., WALL-E, and Ratatouille. To celebrate Pixar’s 40th anniversary, Marvel Comics is releasing special covers featuring Pixar characters reimagined on famous Marvel comic book covers. You’ll find details about these covers and their release dates below.

Marvel is kicking off a celebration with eight special covers inspired by Pixar films. These covers will appear on popular titles like Amazing Spider-Man #34, Avengers: Armageddon #2, Fantastic Four #13, Infernal Hulk #9, and Iron Man #7. The first five revealed covers showcase characters such as WALL-E and EVE, Flik and Princess Atta from A Bug’s Life, Merida from Brave, The Incredibles, and the characters from Inside Out. More covers featuring characters from Up, Toy Story 5, and Ratatouille are also planned, with four additional covers to be released later.


Every Pixar Marvel Comics Homage Cover Revealed (So Far)


The first five variant covers are out, and some are already getting a lot of attention. One cover playfully recreates a classic Fantastic Four image, replacing the heroes with characters from A Bug’s Life, with the villain Hopper menacingly in the background. Another standout features Kate Bishop from Marvel’s Hawkeye. The Pixar tribute series includes a cover starring Merida from Brave, which will appear on Avengers: Armageddon #3. Several recent comic book issues have paid tribute to classic stories by recreating iconic covers with a modern twist. Amazing Spider-Man #34 references Amazing Fantasy #15, while Avengers: Armageddon #2 and #3 draw inspiration from Avengers #9 and Hawkeye #1, respectively. The Fantastic Four series has also revisited its roots with issues #13, #15, and #16 echoing Fantastic Four #159, #49, and #39. Infernial Hulk #9 is an homage to Incredible Hulk #1, and Iron Man #7 pays tribute to Iron Man #76. Notably, these issues all incorporate characters from popular Pixar movies like Up, Inside Out, Brave, The Incredibles, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story, Ratatouille, and WALL-E.

Limited-time offers starting July 15th include special Pixar 40th Anniversary variant covers for two comic books: AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON #2, with art by Dave Bardin (known for Inside Out), and INFERNAL HULK #9, featuring artwork by Humberto Ramos (from Ratatouille).

Exciting new comic book variants are available starting August 5th! These include Amazing Spider-Man #34 with a special 40th Anniversary Pixar cover by Ryan Stegman (stock number 75960621001503441) and Fantastic Four #15 featuring a Pixar-inspired cover by Nicoletta Baldari, themed after ‘A Bug’s Life’ (stock number 75960621122701541).

And for those who love Toy Story, Paco Medina has created a fantastic 40th Anniversary variant for DOOMQUEST #4. I’ve already got my pre-orders in!

New comics are on sale starting September 2nd! These include Avengers: Armageddon #4, Fantastic Four #16, and Thor #801, all featuring special 40th Anniversary variant covers created in partnership with Pixar. The artist for these covers is yet to be announced.
