Pixar has achieved a major box office comeback due to the opening weekend success of Hoppers.
Despite the huge success of Inside Out 2 with $1.7 billion in global sales, many of Pixar’s recent original films haven’t done well in theaters. Elio and Lightyear both fell short of expectations, and while Elemental eventually turned a profit, it didn’t reach the same level of success as Pixar’s earlier hits. Early predictions suggested Hoppers would have the strongest opening weekend of any original Pixar film in years, with estimates between $35 and $40 million.
According to Deadline, Hoppers earned $88 million worldwide during its opening weekend, with $46 million coming from domestic theaters and $42 million from international ones. This is Pixar’s strongest global opening for an original animated film since Coco debuted in 2017 with $104.7 million. It also performed better globally than Onward ($65.6 million) and Elemental ($65.1 million) during their opening weekends.
