As a die-hard Marvel fan, I was thrilled when Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in late July with the premiere of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” This long-anticipated reboot by Marvel Studios finally gave us the iconic superhero team we’ve been craving within the MCU.
“First Steps” played a crucial role in the franchise’s Multiverse Saga, laying the groundwork for the epic showdown we can expect in winter’s “Avengers: Doomsday.” Despite a rough patch at the box office during its second weekend, the film has garnered a lot of positive attention from both critics and audiences.
Unfortunately, “First Steps” isn’t available on home media just yet, but if you’re hankering for some Fantastic Four action in your own living room, there’s an amazing Pixar movie waiting for you on Disney+!
Speaking casually, the movie we’re referring to is none other than “The Incredibles,” a superhero film directed by Brad Bird that was released in 2004. It won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and earned over $631 million globally. As per FlixPatrol’s data, it currently ranks at number 9 on Disney+’s Top 10 movies, a list that also features “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” and a peek at “First Steps.” In the United States, on August 8th, “The Incredibles” is sitting in third place on Disney’s in-app chart, trailing only “Freaky Friday” and “Rio.
It’s worth noting that although The Incredibles isn’t derived from a prior comic book series, it shares striking similarities with the Fantastic Four for Marvel enthusiasts. Both narratives center around families of extraordinary heroes grappling with their powers and adapting to a dynamic world. Characters from both groups possess comparable abilities. For instance, Violet Parr can make herself invisible and generate force fields much like Sue Storm; Helen Parr, or Elastigirl, has elasticity reminiscent of Mister Fantastic; and Bob Parr, Mr. Incredible, demonstrates superhuman strength similar to Ben Grimm.
For quite some time, people joked that The Incredibles was the superior Fantastic Four movie. Before The Fantastic Four: First Steps, movie adaptations of the Fantastic Four comics often failed to impress critics and audiences alike. However, with First Steps, Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige aimed to give these classic characters a film adaptation worthy of their status. Interestingly enough, an advertisement for First Steps even compared it to “a live-action Incredibles” due to its focus on family dynamics.
The Incredibles,” a fantastic movie that’s always worth watching regardless of the season, seems to be gaining popularity now, and there’s a good explanation for that. Given that The Fantastic Four: First Steps has recently captivated audiences, it makes sense that people might be craving more of the same at home. With no release date yet for First Steps on Disney+, The Incredibles and its 2018 sequel could be the best alternatives. These films offer superhero adventures with a blend of heart, humor, and action that sets them apart. It’s no surprise then that The Incredibles remains one of Pixar’s top-tier titles after all these years.
Luckily for fans eagerly awaiting more adventures from the Parr family, Pixar has confirmed a new sequel titled “Incredibles 3“. This upcoming film will be directed by Peter Sohn, who was behind the scenes for movies like “The Good Dinosaur” and “Elemental“. While Brad Bird remains involved, he is now focusing on scriptwriting while also working on other projects. As of now, no release date has been scheduled, but once “Incredibles 3” hits theaters, it’s expected to climb the Disney+ rankings among other Incredibles films.
