With new games being released constantly, and prices for both games and consoles going up, it’s understandable to feel a bit overwhelmed. That’s why it’s great to be able to try a game before you buy it, and Sony’s PlayStation does a good job of letting players do just that. Both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners can download and test out a wide variety of games, and there are plenty of options available this month.
PlayStation Gamers Should Try These Freebies
As a PlayStation fan, I’m always checking to see what new demos are available – they add them every month, and it’s a great way to try games before they even come out! To save you some time, I’ve put together a list of six brand-new demos that I think you’ll really enjoy – I guarantee you’ll want to add them to your wishlist after giving them a play.
Incantation is a terrifying first-person horror game where you play as a mother desperately searching for her missing daughter. Your investigation leads you to a secluded village with a disturbing history – the Chen Family Village. Originally released in 2024, the game forces you to confront the horrifying results of venturing into forbidden territory.
If horror isn’t your thing, you might enjoy Outbound. I recently got to try a demo of this open-world game where you build a base. It’s a really charming experience, blending the heartwarming feel of the movie Little Miss Sunshine with the immersive exploration of Firewatch. You’ll spend time building and customizing your own RV, exploring a vibrant world to find supplies and uncover hidden secrets, and reconnecting with the beauty of nature.
Originally launched in 2022, Crystal Project is now playable on PlayStation 5 thanks to a free demo. Imagine a blend of Final Fantasy and Minecraft – that’s this JRPG! Players gather crystals, unlock different character classes, learn new skills, and work together to defeat challenging bosses. If you enjoy RPGs, don’t miss this hidden gem – especially if you’ve already heard about it!
Who Needs PlayStation Plus?
These games are free to download and play, even without a PlayStation Plus subscription. If you have a PlayStation console, you can enjoy them – and we have three more recommendations for you.
Okay, so I just checked out DAMON and BABY, and it’s seriously cool. It’s a twin-stick shooter that came out last month, and it mixes fast-paced shooting with exploring levels. You play as this weird duo, and basically, you’re trying to power up this demon king, Damon. There’s tons of weapons to find, really tough boss fights, and – honestly, the best part – you can customize how your characters look! Seriously, don’t miss this one.
Ever thought about a mix of volleyball and dodgeball? Then check out Smash It Wild. This game lets you play a unique sport in a fantasy world, using turn-based tactics. As you improve your players and win matches, you’ll find this roguelike competition is surprisingly challenging!
SWAT Commander Simulator puts you in charge of a SWAT team, just as the name suggests. This realistic, single-player first-person shooter lets you experience missions through a bodycam as you lead your team into dangerous, abandoned areas of the city. According to the game’s description, your job isn’t to negotiate – it’s to command your team, clear out the area, recover important data, and stay alive.
You can download and try hundreds of game demos, including all of these titles, thanks to PlayStation’s demo library. If you’re looking for something new to play or want to test a game before it officially releases, be sure to explore this constantly updated collection.
