Sony’s iconic gaming console, PlayStation, has shared exciting news about reintroducing one of its highly sought-after and adored DualSense controllers for the PS5 in the near future, featuring a slight modification. The past year has been particularly rewarding for enthusiasts who appreciate Special Edition DualSense controllers for their PS5 systems. Over this span, Sony has rolled out several limited edition models such as the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and another inspired by The Last of Us. However, the most noticeable release was the 30th Anniversary controller, modeled after the color scheme of the original PlayStation. Now, following countless demands from PlayStation devotees, another PS5 controller launched late in 2024 is making a comeback.
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to share that starting October 30th, Sony is giving us another chance to grab the Astro Bot PS5 DualSense controller! You might remember this one from last year, released alongside the game. It was so popular it quickly sold out. Now, Sony has announced a fresh batch of these controllers, with pre-orders going live on September 12th at 10am. You can pre-order it directly from PlayStation Direct or expect to find it at participating retailers as well. I’m definitely setting my alarm for next week!
What’s Different With the Astro Bot PS5 Controller?
It’s fantastic that PlayStation is responding to fan feedback by re-releasing the Astro Bot DualSense controller. However, this isn’t just a restock of the original version; instead, it’s a new edition they’ve named “Joyful.” This fresh take on the controller has undergone some changes from its initial design, with the eyes on the touchpad now being curved instead of standard circles. The original Astro Bot controller had blue, round eyes, but this updated version features eyes that curve upward, giving off a cheerful vibe as if the controller is pleased to meet you.
To put it straight, I’m not a fan of the latest change in the Astro Bot DualSense controller. It’s still a great controller, no doubt about that, but the original one with standard eyes just had a charm that this updated version seems to lack. However, the color scheme remains the same, so it’s not a complete overhaul. For those who have been eagerly waiting to grab this Astro Bot PS5 controller at a retail price, this update should come as welcome news, as it will soon be available for purchase.
Are you planning on purchasing the new Astro Bot DualSense controller when it becomes available for pre-order next week, or do you prefer the classic design of the original controller? Share your personal opinions below in the comment section!
