PlayStation is changing how it adds games to its PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers. Usually, new games are released all at once each month. Starting next week, however, PlayStation will be rolling out games gradually instead of all at once, which some subscribers may find less appealing.
Okay, so PlayStation is adding eight new games to PS Plus in June 2026, which is awesome! The big ones everyone’s talking about are Final Fantasy XVI, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Gitaroo Man – that last one is going to the Classics section. They’re not dropping all the games at once, though, which is a little different. They’re spreading them out over the month, so some are available now, but we’ll have to wait for others. It’s a bit of a change from how they usually do things – we’re used to getting a big drop mid-month, but it’s not happening quite like that this time.
Here’s what this means for the release dates of all of the new PS Plus games in question for June:
- Sonic X Shadow Generations – Available Now
- Final Fantasy XVI – Available June 16th
- Gitaroo Man – Available June 16th
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance – Available June 23rd
- Life is Strange: Double Exposure – Available June 23rd
- Farming Simulator 25 – Available June 25th
- Black Desert – Available June 30th
- Blades of Fire – Available June 30th

PlayStation explained this change by saying they’re testing a new way to release PlayStation Plus Game Catalog titles in a few countries. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan are the main areas affected. Everyone else will get all the new games at the same time on June 16th.
As a PlayStation Plus member myself, I don’t think staggering game releases is a good idea. It delays when we can actually play the new games and creates confusion about which games are coming out on what days. Releasing all the new PS Plus games at once is much simpler and gives subscribers a consistent experience each month.
If PlayStation Plus subscribers don’t like the new release schedule, PlayStation might reconsider these changes in the future. However, for now, it looks like this new system is here to stay for the PlayStation membership program.
