Sony has announced that it will be discontinuing one of its community programs which offered free PlayStation Store credit, and it appears the end is approaching. This popular loyalty program received praise from many, but also faced criticism regarding its implementation and support by PlayStation. As the program is set to close soon, PlayStation gamers should act quickly as they have a limited time left to accumulate points necessary for free PlayStation Store credits or other rewards they were close to redeeming.
Starting from July 23rd, PlayStation Stars won’t be adding any new campaigns to their program. This implies that once this date passes, individuals participating in the program won’t be able to accumulate more PlayStation Stars points. Any points you’ve earned by then will represent your total reward. Until July 23rd, you can still unlock and earn as many points as possible. After these changes take effect, the points will remain redeemable so they don’t go to waste right away.
The PlayStation Stars platform will stop operating on November 2nd, 2026. After this date, you won’t be able to exchange your points anymore. But don’t worry, all your Digital Collectibles will remain accessible for viewing, even after the change on November 2nd, 2026. This means you can still appreciate the rewards you’ve accumulated through PlayStation Stars.
Since its debut in 2022, PlayStation Stars has undergone numerous transformations. Initially, it provided various rewards and motivated gamers to delve into the PlayStation catalog, yet some critics argued that it lacked depth and didn’t deliver enough value. Despite these opinions, it undeniably provided advantages to PlayStation users, and its departure will undoubtedly leave PlayStation enthusiasts with a sense of loss.

Sony has announced that they will further examine the insights gained from their current program, and are considering methods to expand on these discoveries. While it’s possible that a revamped version of PlayStation Stars might emerge in the future, this is not definitive. If PlayStation Stars does return, it may take on a completely new form.
