PlayStation Plus offers a lot of free games, but they’re usually only available for a limited time. While new games are added each month, even those in the service’s long-term library can be removed. Fortunately, one recently offered game appears to be a permanent addition for subscribers.
A Reddit user named Puzzleheaded-Sir8673 discovered a bug in Life is Strange 2. Even though the game was removed from PlayStation Plus, they still have access. Normally, episodes two through five cost $31.94, but it seems the bug is making the entire game free for other PlayStation Plus members, according to comments on the post.
This PlayStation Plus Bug Is The Good Kind
It’s unusual when a glitch on the PlayStation Store actually helps players, but this is a welcome one! A Reddit user noticed that redeeming any episode of an episodic game on PlayStation Plus seems to unlock the entire game – all episodes, excluding any paid downloadable content. This happened with the Hitman games previously, and appears to be due to how the store handles episodic releases.
It’s a bit unexpected to see games released in episodes still being offered with PlayStation Plus, but it’s a welcome addition. The Life is Strange series isn’t for everyone, but its unique concepts make getting it for free a great deal. Our reviewer called the first episode of Life is Strange 2 a “strong start,” and our guide points out that the game’s standalone stories make it a good place to begin with the series.
It Might Not Last Forever
NotNeuge believes PlayStation is unable to resolve the issue with free episodes of games. Because this problem has existed since the PS4 and hasn’t been addressed, it seems likely it will continue to happen on the PlayStation Store. Once you’ve unlocked the first episode of a game, all subsequent episodes become free, and removing PlayStation Plus access won’t reverse this.
This situation might not last forever, so it’s best to benefit from it now. If Sony updates how it handles free games on the PlayStation Store, the current selection of permanently free PlayStation Plus games could disappear.
