PlayStation Plus Leak Reveals Horrible Start to 2025 for Subscribers

As a long-time Resident Evil fanatic who has braved the terrifying halls of the Raccoon City Police Department twice already (once in 1998 and again in 2019), I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness at the potential departure of Resident Evil 2 from the PlayStation Plus library. If Kayrakaanonline’s predictions hold true, we’ve only got a few more months left to enjoy this masterpiece without having to pay for it again.

It appears that there’s a rumor suggesting that some popular games will no longer be freely accessible to PlayStation Plus subscribers who are part of the Extra and Premium tiers. Specifically, a well-known Capcom title could be removed from these libraries. Subscribers of the Essential tier won’t experience this change as they never had access to the additional game library that comes with Extra and Premium in the first place.

2019 was an impressive year for video games with the release of titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Death Stranding, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Control, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Disco Elysium, Beat Saber, Untitled Goose Game, Gears 5, The Division 2, Borderlands 3, Kingdom Hearts 3, Metro Exodus, Days Gone, Outer Wilds, Detroit: Become Human, The Outer Worlds, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and several others. One of the standout games from that year was particularly noteworthy.

The standout horror game of 2019 is not included in the list above though, and that game is Resident Evil 2, a remake of the 1998 classic of the same name. Right now, Resident Evil 2 is free with PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, but it looks like that will change next month.

On Reddit, the user “Kayrakaanonline” has shared a new post about potential PlayStation Plus games set to depart in January 2025. For those unfamiliar with this user, they have earned a strong reputation for predicting such events. They’ve noticed an intriguing pattern regarding Capcom games on PlayStation Plus: these titles tend to leave after being added for exactly 12 months. This pattern has been instrumental in accurately forecasting the removal of PS Plus games previously, including several Capcom games just last month.

Indeed, it’s worth noting that this forecast should be viewed with some skepticism, but given the longevity and consistency of the Capcom pattern, it seems highly likely that the event you’re referring to will indeed occur.

The Reddit user states, “This title is indeed departing after a year, and since it’s Capcom, they usually make one-year deals with PS Plus. Just like Resident Evil 7 did last year, if I were to wager, I’d put my money on this game leaving as well.
