PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers are in for a treat with some new additions, including what Sony considers to be 2025’s top game. These benefits aren’t available for those with the lower-tier PS Plus Essential or PS Plus Extra subscriptions. Premium is the most expensive PlayStation Plus plan and gives players access to a library of classic games from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP eras, along with other perks like exclusive game trials.
Sony is offering free trials for five games: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Borderlands 4, Astroneer, Kill It With Fire 2, and Varlet. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is particularly noteworthy, having just won Game of the Year and other awards at The Game Awards. Borderlands 4 is also a popular choice. Each trial lasts two hours, except for Kill It With Fire 2, which has a one-hour trial. You can find more information about all five games below. We don’t currently know how long these trials will be available.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
I’ve been checking out Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 recently, and it’s seriously impressive! It’s the first game from Sandfall Interactive, and they launched it earlier this year. The critics seem to love it too – it’s sitting at a 92 on Metacritic, which is pretty awesome.
Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4, created by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, is the fifth major game in the Borderlands series. It blends action RPG elements with fast-paced shooting and received a score of 80 on Metacritic when it launched.
Astroneer
Astroneer is a sci-fi adventure game where players can explore and build freely. Developed by System Era Works, it was first released in 2019 and received a Metacritic score of 73.
Varlet
Varlet is a turn-based RPG set in a school environment, developed by Team Noir, Aquria, and FuRyu. It was released earlier this year and received a Metacritic score of 64.
Kill It With Fire 2
PlayStation Plus Premium is offered with several subscription lengths: you can choose to pay monthly ($17.99), quarterly ($49.99), or annually ($159.99). Beyond offering a large library of free games and exclusive game trials, the main benefit of the service is that it unlocks online multiplayer gaming.
