Okay, so I’ve been checking out this new free game on PS5 through PlayStation Plus, and seriously, it’s terrifying! Everyone’s saying it’s the most intense horror game out there right now. It’s available if you’re on the Extra or Premium tiers of PS Plus – sadly, it’s not included with the basic Essential tier. Honestly, if you’re only on Essential, this game might be worth upgrading to Extra or Premium, especially with Halloween coming up. It’s that good and scary!
PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS5 are currently playing the remake of Silent Hill 2, one of three big-name horror games offered this month. This new version, developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami, is a reimagining of the classic 2001 game originally released for the PlayStation 2. It’s only available on PS5, not PS4.
“Most Intense Horror Game on the Market”
A post asking if anyone was playing Silent Hill 2 for the spooky season started a conversation on the PS Plus Reddit page.
Many players have commented on how frightening the game is. One player even said they might not be able to continue playing due to the intense fear it evokes, and they attribute this largely to the game’s impressive sound design.
Someone commented that Silent Hill 2 is significantly scarier than Alan Wake 2, and advises players who found Alan Wake 2 (which is currently free for PlayStation Plus members) difficult to avoid playing it.
One commenter warned that if you found Alan Wake 2 disturbing, you should avoid Silent Hill 2. They described it as the most intensely frightening horror game available right now.
As a huge horror fan, I was blown away by the new Silent Hill 2 on PS5! It scored an incredible 87 on Metacritic, making it one of the best games of 2024, and definitely the best horror title in my opinion. It wasn’t just critics who loved it, though – it got nominated for six awards at The Game Awards, including nods for its amazing story and action-adventure gameplay. And honestly, the sound design is phenomenal, which thankfully got some recognition with a nomination too!
We really liked the horror game, and in our review, we highlighted it as a fantastic way to get into the Konami series and one of the best horror games released in recent years.
If you’re new to the game and considering trying it now that it’s available with PS Plus Extra or Premium, you can expect to spend around 16 to 20 hours finishing it. Players who like to find everything will likely need closer to 30 hours to fully complete this survival-horror experience.
We’d love to hear your thoughts! Please leave a comment or join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum.
