Sony just released an update for the PlayStation Portal that significantly improves how games look on the handheld device. Since its launch in 2023, Sony has been consistently enhancing the PS Portal, with previous updates focusing on things like the user interface, Wi-Fi performance, and cloud streaming for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. This new update takes things a step further by boosting the overall visual quality of games.
A new software update is now available for the PlayStation Portal. The biggest improvement is a new 1080p High Quality visual mode. Players can find this option in the device settings and choose to enable it for sharper graphics. Keep in mind that using this mode prioritizes visual quality over speed and will use more data. This feature works whether you’re playing games remotely from your PS5 or directly through cloud gaming.
The PlayStation Portal’s biggest new feature isn’t the only improvement – Sony has also made several smaller changes. These include better trophy notifications, a more efficient search function, and more detailed game information. Setting up the Portal is now also simpler for new users.
PS Portal Is Shaping PlayStation’s Future
The PlayStation Portal has proven very popular for Sony, and its success is likely to continue with future improvements. It’s clear that PS5 owners want the ability to play their games on the go, and this is influencing Sony’s plans for the PS6. Several sources suggest the next PlayStation console will include a built-in handheld device, allowing users to play games directly on it – not just stream them. If this is accurate, PlayStation will be competing more directly with companies like Nintendo and Valve, who already offer dedicated handheld gaming systems.
Sony likely wouldn’t be considering a new handheld like the PS Portal if it wasn’t proving successful. That makes the Portal a really important product for Sony, potentially one of the most significant they’ve released in the last ten years. With ongoing improvements and updates, now is an excellent time to buy one.
