Sony’s PlayStation Portal, which had a successful initial release last year, lets you stream your PlayStation 5 games over the internet. If you’re a PlayStation Plus Premium member, you can play games like Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Ghost of Yōtei, and the Resident Evil 4 remake. You also get access to stream all the games in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and classic PlayStation titles.
Wish you could play your PS5 games on the Portal even when your console is turned off, or take your gaming on the road? Now you can! Plus, Sony has included extras like a Passcode Lock for security, immersive 3D Audio when using Pulse headsets or other compatible PlayStation Link devices, and the convenience of browsing and buying games directly from the PlayStation Store.
I can also get invites to play with others and jump into multiplayer stuff, which is awesome. And if I’m having trouble seeing things, the game has accessibility options like a screen reader and the ability to make the text bigger, which is a huge help!
As Xbox increasingly focuses on cloud gaming, even planning a free version with ads, Sony’s new Portal device for cloud streaming is well-timed. It’s uncertain if it will become hugely popular, but it could be a sign of things to come, potentially paving the way for a future handheld PlayStation – perhaps even the rumored PS6 version.
