Sony recently added a new feature to the PlayStation Store, marking its first update of 2026. Currently, it seems to be available only on the console version and isn’t live for all users – it’s being released gradually, which is typical for PlayStation Store updates. While not everyone has access yet, it should become available soon, though Sony hasn’t officially announced anything about it. They haven’t publicly mentioned the update, so details are limited to reports and speculation.
The PlayStation Store on PS5 now displays a game’s original launch price. This is in addition to a feature added last year that shows the lowest price a game has reached in the past 30 days. This information helps players see if a game has a permanent price reduction and how good current deals actually are.
The First New Feature of 2026
While this is officially the first new feature for the PlayStation Store in 2026, Sony recently brought back a previously removed feature in an earlier update. The PlayStation Store doesn’t usually receive much attention, so it’s notable to see it getting some focus now, possibly as preparation for the PS6. However, given rumors of significant delays to the PS6’s launch, these changes seem to be happening quite early in the process.
Recently, there’s been growing pressure from regulators and others to make digital stores like the PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, and Xbox Store more open and honest with customers. It’s unclear if this is why Sony is now being more transparent about what’s available on the PlayStation Store, but it’s a noticeable change. For a long time, Sony didn’t seem to prioritize openness on the PlayStation Store, so this sudden shift is surprising.
