According to a Financial Times report, developers from multiple PlayStation Studios like the team behind Astro Bot are part of this ongoing effort.

So far, they’ve managed to avoid the typical conflicts that can arise between artistic and commercial aspects of game development. However, he acknowledges that if such a clash were to ever occur, a critical discussion would be necessary.
Doucet said, ‘If our creative side ever feels isolated or punished, we’ll certainly discuss it.’ In other words, tensions would rise.”

Art director Sebastian Brueckner believes that the close-knit atmosphere at Team Asobi, which employs around 60 people, has been a significant factor in their success within PlayStation’s larger plans. He suggests that bigger studios with hundreds of employees often struggle to maintain the same level of team camaraderie as smaller teams because it becomes increasingly difficult to replicate that intimacy when a studio grows beyond 200 or 350 people.
In simpler terms, the head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, expressed their strategy for game development in the future, emphasizing a balance they aim to maintain. He mentioned that while he doesn’t want teams to always stick to proven methods, he prefers that when mistakes are made, they happen early and at minimal cost.
These choices are made following Sony’s decision over the past year to terminate multiple live service projects due to the unfavorable response from both critics and gamers towards Concord. In response to these cancellations, Hulst emphasized that PlayStation is now committed to providing a wide range of gaming experiences for players.
He emphasized that the exact count of updates (live-service releases) isn’t crucial. Instead, what truly matters to him is creating a variety of player experiences and fostering different online communities.
He went on to say, “We’ve significantly increased the frequency and variety of our tests for greater scrutiny.” He added, “Each mistake serves as a valuable lesson, highlighting the importance of such vigilance.
Robin Zhu, an analyst from Bernstein, suggested that Concord might be one of the significant releases that compelled Sony to rectify its errors. Furthermore, Zhu believes that Sony is set for a prosperous future in the long term, as long as they stick to the game genres that initially made PlayStation a household name.
Zhu pointed out that, despite Concord making them study harder, it’s actually a positive outcome,” he said. “If Sony concentrates on creating games that set them apart and lead to their success, they stand to gain significantly in the long term.
In terms of upcoming projects, Hulst emphasized that PlayStation’s strategy for creating and nurturing new intellectual properties is deliberate. They carefully consider how a novel idea could evolve into an enduring PlayStation franchise, ultimately expanding its appeal beyond the gaming community.
