It appears that Sony could be considering a similar strategy as Microsoft did by releasing their exclusive games on other platforms, following Microsoft’s success with expanding its first-party games to other systems.
As per a recent job listing on Greenhouse, Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation) is seeking a Senior Director for Multiplatform and Account Management. In this role, potential candidates will have the opportunity to significantly influence and carry out the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios software titles across various digital platforms other than PlayStation hardware, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile.
As a gamer, I’ll be responsible for shaping the long-term commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios games beyond just PlayStation platforms. This involves driving revenue growth and expanding our audience reach on non-PlayStation platforms like PC, Steam, Epic Games, Xbox, and Nintendo. Additionally, I’ll build and maintain strong relationships with these platforms, ensuring effective promotions and optimizing performance. In simple terms, I’ll be the bridge that connects PlayStation to other gaming ecosystems for mutual success.
Sony has a history of making its games available on other platforms, such as the MLB The Show series. Helldivers 2, which was released on PS5 and PC in February 2024, will soon be playable on Xbox Series X/S starting next month.
Although it might take some time before they release their primary games on Xbox or the upcoming Switch 2, they are definitely working towards more titles that can be played across multiple platforms. So, keep an eye out for future announcements to see how things unfold.
