Sony has declared through a statement to the German publication GamesWirtschaft that they will not participate in the Gamescom event coming up next month. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Sony is absent from the largest gaming exposition globally.
Given that Sony hasn’t attended a trade show since 2019, it wasn’t unexpected when they announced they wouldn’t participate in Gamescom 2025. This was made official through a statement: “Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has no plans to showcase at Gamescom 2025, but we eagerly anticipate some thrilling content and releases coming our way this year.” However, Sony is set to appear at the Tokyo Game Show in September.
At the event, you won’t be able to play any first-party PS5 games that are produced by Sony themselves, but there might still be announcements for these games at the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase. Third-party developers will continue to reveal their PS5 versions, and their trailers will display PlayStation logos. So, it’s worth tuning in whether Sony is physically present or not.
