Apple TV+ has a new hit series that’s become its most popular ever, and we predicted its success back in February. The streaming service has quickly become known for compelling, character-driven dramas, and this latest show has surpassed Severance as the most-watched program on the platform.
Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has a new show that’s quickly becoming a hit. It’s a science fiction thriller inspired by Invasion of the Body Snatchers and has already broken viewership records. It initially surpassed the debut record for Season 2 of Severance, and now it’s been seen by more viewers than that show’s entire season. Although Apple TV hasn’t released specific numbers, it’s difficult to compare its success to shows on other streaming services.
Interestingly, Bob Odenkirk, who starred alongside Seehorn in Better Call Saul, actually predicted this series would become hugely popular, comparing it to Severance. As it turns out, he was right. In an August interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Odenkirk admitted he didn’t know much about the show, but his prediction has proven remarkably accurate.
Honestly, I don’t pretend to understand all the details, but I have this incredible feeling about Pluribus – it’s going to be huge! I mean, truly massive. It feels like the next cultural phenomenon, something on the scale of Game of Thrones, or even Severance, which I already think is brilliant. I just know Pluribus is going to be the next big thing, and I’m so excited to see it happen.
‘Pluribus’ Has Impressive Critical Reviews

Apple TV had already planned for a second season of Pluribus, but strong viewership and positive reviews likely would have led to its renewal anyway.
Reviewers are raving about Gilligan’s fresh approach to the end of the world, giving it a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. They call it a truly unique sci-fi show, and praise Seehorn’s performance as a deeply unhappy woman struggling with an alien collective that’s trying to help.
Okay, so a lot of people are watching this show, but the reaction is way more divided than what the critics are saying. Right now, it’s sitting at 68% on the Popcornmeter, and the biggest issue seems to be that it’s slow – people are saying “nothing really happens.” Honestly, whether you’ll like it probably depends on if you’re into other slow-burn dramas like Silo, For All Mankind, or Foundation. Those shows got the same criticism, but also ended up being considered some of the best TV in recent years.
The first season of Pluribus will end on December 26th, and with a second season already planned, it’s clear the finale will leave viewers with unanswered questions. Fans will have to wait over a year to find out what happens next.
