The new game, Pokémon Champions, has launched, but the reaction hasn’t been as positive as expected. While the trailer was fun to watch, players are already voicing concerns about how well the game runs and the missing features that competitive players feel should be included.
A well-known leaker, CentroLeaks, criticized the new release on X (formerly Twitter), pointing out that it doesn’t run well on the Switch 2 (especially considering it’s a game originally made for the older Switch), has a limited selection of Pokémon, and doesn’t allow automatic friend adding from your Switch friend list. They also noted the absence of many competitive items and the lack of local wireless play. Other players have echoed these concerns, specifically mentioning a performance cap of 30 frames per second and frustratingly complicated menus as major issues.
Despite some players hoping for more Pokémon and improvements, it’s disappointing to see the game receive such a weak reaction, especially considering its potential to be a strong competitive title. Pokémon Pokopia has been much more successful, and it’s now clear that Pokémon Champions is falling behind.
