Pokémon Go finally adds a feature that fans have wanted for years

We’re excited to announce that Pokémon Go is adding a long-requested feature that players have been asking for!

Pokémon Go, which first came out in 2016, receives frequent updates with new things to do and special items for different seasons. However, this latest addition is something players have been waiting for a while.

Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the original Pokémon Go craze, and Niantic, the game’s developer, needs to prepare now. A big anniversary is likely to bring a lot of attention from players again.

That’s correct! The latest update now lets players trade Pokémon with each other, even if they aren’t physically together.

People have been requesting this feature for a long time, and it will be incredibly useful for completing the Pokédex, especially since some Pokémon require trades to evolve.

So, how will the new feature function? It’s likely Niantic will require some effort from players to complete remote trades – don’t expect them to be effortless!

To start, you’ll need to become ‘Forever Friends’ with the player you want to trade with remotely.

This friendship level is even closer than ‘Best Friends,’ and it’ll take a lot of thoughtful gifts to reach the ultimate ‘Forever Friends’ status.

After you and a friend become Forever Friends, you can start trading items with each other remotely!

To unlock more remote trades with someone, you’ll need to become better friends with them. Keep battling, trading, and giving gifts to increase your friendship level.

There are also some terms and conditions to bear in mind with your Forever Friend remote trades.

To offer a Pokémon for trade, you’ll need to use a “Remote Trade tag.” When you start a trade, you can choose three tagged Pokémon from your friend’s list. Finally, both you and your friend will confirm which Pokémon you each want to trade.

It’s also worth noting that the following types of Pokémon are not allowed in remote trades:

  • Pokémon caught in the last 30 days
  • Previously traded Pokémon
  • Shadow Pokémon
  • Mythical Pokémon
  • Pokémon defending Gyms or Power Spots
  • Pokémon currently set as your buddy
  • Actively Mega-Evolved Pokémon
  • Fused Pokémon
  • Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta
  • Pokémon placed at Pokémon Playgrounds

When will remote trading be available? It’s being gradually released, and players in New Zealand can start using it from Monday, December 8th.

We don’t have a confirmed release date for the UK yet, but we’re excited to test this feature when it arrives! Stay tuned for updates.
