Pokemon Go Halloween Event Debuts New Shiny Pokemon (& Makes It Easier to Catch)

Okay, so October is looking awesome for *Pokemon Go*! They officially confirmed the October Go Pass, and yeah, we can finally earn Poke Coins just by doing research – which is huge! But that’s not all. Niantic just dropped details about Halloween events, and it’s going to be big. There’s a special Halloween GO Pass, and get this – a brand new Shiny Pokemon is coming to *Pokemon Go*! I’m already planning my spooky adventures.

Let’s start with the disappointing news: Mimikyu won’t be appearing in Pokémon Go during this Halloween event. However, this is only the first part of the Halloween celebration, so there’s still hope for its debut in the future. For now, players can look forward to the arrival of Poltchageist and its evolution, Sinistcha, both brand new to the game. And that’s not all – Shiny Sinistea will also be available starting October 21st when the first part of the Halloween event begins.

How to Get Poltchageist and Sinistcha in Pokemon Go

Similar to other new Pokémon releases, Poltchageist won’t be found roaming in the wild during the first part of the Halloween event. Instead, you’ll be able to battle and catch it as a Raid Boss in One-Star Raids. Good news for players in rural areas: these raids are usually easy to complete on your own, so getting a Poltchageist when it first appears should be possible.

You can evolve Poltchageist into Sinistcha by spending 50 Poltchageist Candies. To get these candies quickly, focus on participating in Raids between October 21st and October 27th. Currently, Poltchageist and Sinistcha can’t be found as Shiny Pokémon, but this event introduces Shiny versions of their teacup forms!

How to Get Shiny Sinistea in Pokemon Go

A Shiny Sinistea will appear in *Pokémon Go* as part of the Halloween 2025 Part 1 event, starting October 21st. Even after the event ends, you’ll still be able to find it! During its debut, the chances of finding a Shiny Sinistea will be increased, so be sure to participate if you’re hoping to catch one.

Keep an eye out for Sinistea during the first part of the Halloween 2025 event! It will appear in the wild, giving you a chance to find a shiny version. However, the best way to hunt for Shiny Sinistea will be through One-Star Raids, as these raids will have an increased chance of a shiny encounter. Raids offer the highest probability of finding a shiny Sinistea.

You can evolve a Shiny Sinistea into a Shiny Polteageist by using 50 Sinistea Candies. Before evolving, use Photo Mode or the appraisal feature to determine if your Sinistea is the Phony Form or the Antique Form, as this will affect the appearance of the evolved Polteageist.

Other Pokemon Go Halloween Part 1 Event Bonuses

I’m so excited for the Halloween event! Besides the new Pokémon and Shiny, there are some awesome bonuses coming. Honestly, the best part for me is that they’re bringing back the Lavender Town music – it’s so nostalgic! Plus, as you complete the Halloween 2025 GO Pass, you’ll unlock perks like extra Candy when you catch Pokémon, a better chance of finding that rare XL Candy, and even more Candy when you transfer Pokémon. It’s going to be a great event!

Trainers can now battle several Pokémon in Raids! One-Star Raids will feature Galarian Yamask, while Alolan Marowak, Hisuian Typhlosion, and Hisuian Samurott will appear in Three-Star Raids. Keep an eye out for Shadow Raids with Shadow Yamask and Shadow Phantump as well.

During the event, you can get special research tasks by spinning PokeStops and Gyms. Completing these tasks will give you chances to encounter event-themed Pokemon.

Players will also earn Mega Energy for some Ghost- and Dark-type Pokémon, like Gengar, Houndoom, Sableye, Banette, and Absol.

The first part of the Halloween event in *Pokemon Go* includes new Avatar items and stickers, like a Polteageist hat and stickers featuring Pokemon in costume and pumpkin Pikachu. Overall, it’s a good event! While it doesn’t quite reach the excitement of the Mimikyu release, a new Pokemon and a chance to catch a shiny one are always welcome. The event will be live from October 21st at 10 AM to October 27th at 10 AM local time.
