For a long time, Pokémon Go players have been asking for the Pokémon Mimikyu to be added to the game. It’s a popular request, especially around Halloween, and fans have been disappointed it wasn’t available. Now, reports suggest Mimikyu will finally appear in Pokémon Go… but the announced date is April 1st, leading many players to question if it’s a joke.
Pokémon Go often marks April Fool’s Day with special in-game happenings. In the past, they’ve turned Pokémon into pixel art, flooded the game with Pidgey, and even made Pokémon look like Poké Balls. This year, it seems they’re finally adding a highly requested Pokémon, but in disguise! As with previous April Fool’s events, Niantic hasn’t officially announced it on their website yet, so many players are taking the news with a grain of salt.
Pokemon Go May Finally Add Mimikyu in April Fool’s Day Event

Rumors started over the weekend that Mimikyu would be featured in this year’s Pokémon Go April Fool’s Day event. Many fans, including myself, initially thought these reports were jokes because of the date. We generally expect Ghost and Fairy-type Pokémon like Mimikyu to appear during Halloween events, and April Fool’s Day is known for pranks. So, when news started spreading that Mimikyu would arrive on April 1st, a lot of people assumed it was an early April Fool’s joke.
This morning, we received confirmation that the rumors about a new Pokémon event are likely true. Serebii, a trusted source for Pokémon news, shared details about an event featuring Mimikyu, stating it will arrive in Pokémon Go on April 1st. Because Serebii doesn’t publish April Fool’s Day jokes, this news strongly suggests the Mimikyu event is actually happening.
Good news for Pokémon GO players! Mimikyu will become available in the game starting at midnight on April 1st, 2026. During battles, Mimikyu will transform into its Busted Form after being hit by a single Charge Attack, and its Defense stat will decrease. You can find more details at serebii.net/index2.shtml.

According to the website Serebii, Mimikyu is expected to appear in the game starting April 1st, 2026, at midnight. This likely means it will be a surprise part of the annual April Fool’s Day event. These events are usually kept secret and aren’t announced on the official website until they’ve already begun, adding to the fun. Therefore, it makes sense that Mimikyu’s appearance hasn’t been officially announced yet.
Similar to other Pokémon, Mimikyu will likely switch to its Busted Form after taking damage in battle. Fans have long hoped that the new form-changing feature introduced with Morpeko would pave the way for Mimikyu to be added, and it now appears that hope will be realized.
With April 1st already here in some places, it looks like Mimikyu is officially coming to Pokemon Go. Players on the r/pokemongo subreddit are sharing screenshots showing Mimikyu appearing on their in-game maps. Unless it’s an elaborate April Fool’s joke, it seems Mimikyu will be available in Pokemon Go as soon as it turns April 1st in your area.
