Pokémon Go has seen some significant changes lately, and while some have been popular, others haven’t been as well-received. The recent update to the leveling system is a good example. Players are happy about the increased level cap, but the update also caused some issues, like overflowing item bags and that unsettling XP pop-up. Now, it looks like Niantic is addressing the item bag problem with a new fix.
On November 4th, many Pokémon Go players noticed something unexpected: their item storage seemed to have increased automatically. Players took to online forums like r/TheSilphRoad and r/PokemonGo to discuss whether this was a mistake or a planned update. While Niantic hasn’t officially announced anything, the change is happening to so many people that it could be a new fix.
Pokemon Go Players Find Item Bag Limit Seemingly Increased For Free
Recently, many Pokémon Go players have been struggling with either using up their rewards from leveling up or managing a full inventory. However, it seems Niantic has now given everyone a free upgrade to their inventory space.

Trainers are noticing they can now carry a lot more items! Many are reporting an increase of up to 400 extra slots in their item bags, although the amount varies. Some were initially concerned they’d mistakenly used PokeCoins for an upgrade, but it appears Niantic has likely increased the item storage given as a level-up reward.
Players have discovered that leveling up now gives you more space in your item bag, as well as increased Pokémon storage. It looks like the recent boost to item limits is a fix to ensure everyone’s account has the correct amount. A post on the r/TheSilphRoad subreddit details approximately how much your item bag will increase at each level, based on information shared by the community.

As far as I can tell, Niantic hasn’t officially announced this update on any of the Pokémon Go social media channels or website, and there’s been no news within the game itself. However, because so many players are noticing increased bag space, and bag upgrades have always come with level updates, it’s probably not a bug. It looks like the change is happening gradually, so if you haven’t seen the bigger inventory yet, try closing and reopening the app.
Free items are uncommon in Pokémon Go, so the recent addition of about 400 extra item storage slots is a welcome change. With a new month of events and new Pokémon on the horizon, it’s great that many players will have more space to keep their items.
