The long-awaited update to player levels is finally here in *Pokemon Go*. Niantic had previously announced the changes, including new maximum levels and rewards. However, it wasn’t clear how the update would affect players until they logged in on October 15th. Trainers quickly discovered what the rebalance meant for their current level, but also encountered a surprisingly annoying problem.
Niantic announced that Pokémon Go players above level 25 would increase by “at least one level” with the recent update. Many long-time players, including myself, were surprised by just *how much* levels increased. I was level 38 on October 14th, but after the update, I unexpectedly reached the new maximum level of 50. A friend jumped from level 46 all the way to level 70, meaning the new level-up requirements activated instantly for him. Beyond the large level increases towards the new level 80 cap, the update also created another problem: players received an overwhelming amount of items.
Players Have to Mass Delete Level-Up Rewards Due to Overfull Pokemon Go Storage
A really great part of the recent update in *Pokemon Go* is that leveling up can now occasionally give you more storage space. Since running out of room for Pokemon and items is a major reason players spend money on the game, this is a welcome change from Niantic. While the extra storage isn’t massive, it suggests a move towards letting players expand their storage for free. However, even with the added 50 item slots, it’s been hard to keep up with all the new items from the update!
Okay, so I just logged into *Pokemon Go* after the latest update, and boom – there was my new trainer level! And it wasn’t just the level itself, I got *all* the rewards I’d missed from leveling up. For me, that meant jumping from level 38 to 50 – twelve levels of goodies all at once! It was cool seeing all the reward screens pop up at first, a real little dopamine rush. But a lot of us quickly realized there was a problem. All those items? They take up a *ton* of space. They expanded our inventories, sure, but they were instantly overflowing!
Bag increase to match all received items could have gone a long way

It’s strange, but some *Pokemon Go* players are frustrated by receiving too many free items. The game limits how much you can carry, and when your bag is full, you can’t collect more from PokeStops. This is a problem because many tasks require you to spin PokeStops regularly. After a recent update, one player found their inventory overfilled by almost 600 items! This means they either have to wait a long time to spin PokeStops again, or discard the very items they were given. It feels less like a helpful gift and more like an obstacle to progress.
If you want to progress your PokeStop streak

There’s a way to spin at least one PokéStop daily, even with a full inventory. As players on Reddit have discovered, if you need your Daily Raid Pass, you can still spin a PokéStop. However, this only allows for one spin per day, making it difficult to achieve certain goals without getting rid of a lot of the new rewards you receive.
The recent storage overflow was a temporary problem caused by the update. Now that player levels have been balanced with the new system, rewards will be given at a normal pace again. Honestly, though, most of us weren’t expecting storage issues when thinking about changes to the Pokémon Go leveling system.
