On October 16th, the arrival of “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” will signify a decade-long hiatus in introducing new Mega Evolutions to the franchise coming to an end. In July, The Pokemon Company unveiled the first of these fresh Mega Evolutions we’ll see in the game – Mega Dragonite. Similarly, the Pokemon Trading Card Game is reintroducing Mega Evolution this year, with a new set slated for release in North America on September 26th. This upcoming set appears to focus on existing Pokemon and Mega Evolutions rather than introducing any new ones. However, it appears fans won’t have to wait long for the new additions.
Based on information from PokeBeach, a new set titled “Mega Dream ex” is scheduled for release in Japan on November 28th, approximately one month following “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”. This set is said to feature Mega Dragonite as its main attraction, given the current hype surrounding this specific Mega Evolution. Dragonite has been a beloved character since the original games, Pokemon Red and Green, so it’s expected that many fans will be eager to explore its Mega Evolution, with particular interest in the associated card.
The game “Mega Dream ex” will be distributed in Japan via High Class Packs. This implies that the cards from this set could potentially appear in a special collection for North America, similar to the Prismatic Evolutions at the beginning of this year. The Pokemon Company has not yet revealed any plans beyond Mega Evolution in September. However, a past leak from PokeBeach suggests another English set, named Phantasmal Flames, will be released on November 14th. If this leak proves accurate, it’s likely that the contents of “Mega Dream ex” won’t be translated into English until early 2026.
Similar to any leak, it’s important to approach this information with caution, as plans can shift and leaks may not always be accurate. However, it’s essential to note that PokeBeach is generally a highly reliable source for Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) news, boasting an excellent reputation. This leaked information aligns well with officially announced details and the way The Pokemon Company has managed similar situations in the past. Moreover, given the TCG’s tendency to launch new Mega Evolutions promptly, especially with speculations pointing towards a new Pokemon generation debuting in late 2026, it seems logical for this to be the case.
As autumn draws near, we can expect to learn more about The Pokemon Company’s upcoming plans in the next few months. With the exciting release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, a new season of Pokemon Go, and numerous new trading cards on the horizon, it appears that fans have much to anticipate following a rather subdued beginning to 2025.
