Pokemon Legends: Z-A Discovery Completely Changes Shiny Hunting

A recent discovery in Pokemon Legends: Z-A significantly alters how players hunt for shiny Pokemon on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Similar to Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, collecting shiny Pokemon is a major goal for dedicated fans, keeping them engaged long after finishing the main game. This new finding doesn’t simplify the hunt itself, but it does make it easier to find and collect multiple shiny Pokemon.

A new bug in Pokemon Legends: Z-A allows players to easily duplicate their rare, shiny Pokemon. Unfortunately, Game Freak and Nintendo haven’t addressed it yet, and given their history, a fix could take a while. Until then, players can freely clone these valuable Pokemon.

How It Works

A bug was found, or at least popularized by, Austin John Plays. Here’s how to use it: First, get the Shiny Pokemon you want to move and lead it far away from where it normally appears until it stops being aggressive. When it does, it will automatically start walking back to its starting point. This is when you need to save your game – this locks the Pokemon into its current location, ignoring its usual programming. Next, completely restart your game by turning it off and on again. When you load back in, the Pokemon should still be where you left it. If it is, the trick worked! Now, move a bit further away from its original spawn point, save again, exit to the main menu, and restart the game. When you load back in, the Pokemon should be in both places: where you left it, and at its original spawn location.

Nintendo and Game Freak will likely address this issue soon, but it will probably take some time. Unfortunately, any duplicate shiny Pokémon you encounter before the fix are permanent. However, players willing to take advantage of the situation can effectively double their chances of catching shiny Pokémon.

While a recent glitch is a bit complex, overall Pokemon Legends: Z-A isn’t riddled with bugs. However, there are a few problems that need addressing. Besides fixing this glitch, the developers, Game Freak, also need to address a change they made to a popular Pokemon that has unfortunately made it ineffective in the game.
