Gaining experience and leveling up your Pokémon is simpler than ever in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Plus, the game’s open-world economy has a lot of opportunities for players who can learn to take advantage of its systems.
This Pokémon Legends: Z-A is all about leveling up as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Exp. Candy
You can buy Exp. Candy at the Mega Shard Exchange shop. They’re very affordable, costing only eight Mega Shards each. These shards are easy to collect – you can find large groups of Mega Crystals around Lumiose City and gather hundreds in just five minutes.
If you have a Pokémon with a very fast attack that quickly resets, like Extreme Speed, you’re all set.
Spending just ten minutes collecting 800 Mega Shards lets you buy 100 Exp. Candy, which can quickly raise a Pokémon’s level significantly.
Red Canari Plush
The Red Canari Plush is one of five different Canari plush toys available. You can find these toys in the Shop Inventory at the Colorful Screw Exchange within Racine Construction.
It gives your Pokémon a small boost in experience points, and you’ll receive one for free from Tarragon when you begin the fifth main story mission.
You can use all five Canari Plushes at the same time, and you can improve them to make them even better. A fully upgraded Red Canari Plush only needs thirteen Colorful Screws in total (you start with one!), and it will boost your experience points earned after battles by 1.7 times.
Alpha Pokemon
These giant, wild Pokémon are the toughest opponents you’ll face, boasting a lot of health and powerful, special moves.
Defeating these enemies normally gives you a good amount of experience points, and even more if they’re stronger than you. However, it’s not always easy to do.
You can easily win some battles by using the Poison or Toxic moves, which badly poison your opponent. This poison slowly gets worse over time. Just send out a Pokémon to use the move, then switch it out to avoid attacks. Eventually, the poison will defeat the enemy, letting you claim your reward.
Perish Song is a powerful late-game move similar to Toxic. Any Pokémon that hears it will faint after 30 seconds if they don’t switch out of battle. Because only a few Pokémon can learn it, and only by leveling up, you might need to use different methods to gain experience points at first.
Defeated Alpha Pokemon also reward you with Exp. Candies as a nice little bonus.
Capturing Versus Killing Pokemon
You earn considerably more experience points by catching wild Pokémon instead of letting them disappear – up to 66% more! If you have Poke Balls, it’s always better to try and catch a Pokémon after defeating it.
Lucky Egg
This item helps Pokémon earn more experience points, but it’s best used later in the game. You can get it at the Vert Pokémon Center after completing side mission 109, ‘Wondrous Self-Healing Pokémon,’ which becomes available only after finishing main mission 37.
Those are all the best ways to grind for Exp. Points with minimal effort in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
