If you’re familiar with older Pokemon games, you remember it took a while to get around the map. You might expect Lumiose City in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* to feel limited compared to exploring an entire region like Kanto. While that might be partially true, the game still makes Lumiose feel surprisingly large. With different areas to discover and important locations to visit, it still takes time to travel around the city. That’s why fans are excited to see a feature from a past Pokemon game making a comeback in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A*.
In older Pokémon games, quickly getting around took effort. You had to find a special move, like Fly, to revisit places easily, and even then, you often only arrived near a city and still had to walk. Recent games, such as *Pokémon Sword and Shield*, improved this with features like a Flying Taxi. However, *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* takes fast travel to the next level. It offers two convenient options for navigating Lumiose City and includes a map filled with interesting things to discover.
Fast Travel Is Available As Soon As You Visit a New Spot
Traveling around Lumiose City will be easy! As you visit important places, you’ll unlock the ability to instantly travel back to them. These locations will have a small wing icon on the map, just like in *Pokemon Scarlet and Violet*. However, *Legends: Z-A* improves on this system in two ways: there are more places you can fast travel to, and the game clearly shows you when new locations become available. Plus, fast travel is much quicker on the new Switch 2 console, although loading times may vary on the original Switch.
While you’re discovering Lumiose City, the game will let you know whenever you reach a new Fast Travel spot. This helps you stay aware of new ways to get around, even before you check your map. These spots aren’t just Pokémon Centers; you can also quickly travel from cafés, restaurants, and key places like Hotel Z-A and Emma’s Detective Agency. This makes it easier to progress through the story and ensures a fast travel point is usually nearby when you need it.
Despite its streamlined travel options, Lumiose City is still worth exploring. Hidden areas contain wild Pokémon and interesting side quests. The game strikes a good balance between quick travel and rewarding exploration, which is a major improvement over *Scarlet & Violet*. That earlier game’s open world felt too empty to encourage players to explore once fast travel was unlocked.
Lumi Cabs Offer Early Travel to Key Locations
I’m really loving how *Legends: Z-A* improves fast travel with the Lumi Cab service! It’s awesome because you can travel to key spots all over the city, even places that aren’t regular fast travel locations. It’s especially helpful when you first start playing, before you’ve unlocked a ton of fast travel points. Basically, the Lumi Taxi takes you to the main plaza in each sector, which is a perfect place to begin exploring, find new fast travel spots, or just pick up your next side quest.
Fast travel in *Legends: Z-A* works much like recent Pokémon games, but with some smart improvements. The game now encourages exploration and adds more fast travel points when you need them, making it feel great to get around. The addition of taxis is a welcome bonus, offering another convenient way to travel. Hopefully, this balanced mix of travel options, combined with a map that’s fun to explore on foot, will be included in future Pokémon titles.
