The Pokémon Company has unveiled a fresh collection for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which is set to drop on March 28th, following a preliminary leak. Confirming earlier rumors, the upcoming expansion titled “Scarlet & Violet – Journey Together” will contain over 180 cards translated into English, including those from Japan’s Battle Partners extension. This new set will reintroduce Trainer’s Pokémon, emphasizing beloved characters that have graced the mainline Pokémon video games. In all, more than 40 Trainer’s Pokémon are expected to be featured across the set. Some of the standout cards revealed so far are N’s Reshiram ex, Hop’s Zacian ex, Iono’s Bellibolt ex, and Lillie’s Clefairy ex.
After the announcement, several items have been posted on the official Pokemon Center site, although they are currently unavailable for purchase. However, they will become available for pre-order soon. One of the exciting options is an Elite Trainer Box, priced at $59.99. This set includes 11 booster packs from the “Journey Together” series, two full-art foil N’s Zorua promo cards (one featuring the Pokemon Center logo), 65 card sleeves, 45 Energy cards, and more.
Instead of the current Prismatic Evolutions collection that comes in sets, the individual Journey Together booster packs will be available for purchase. Each pack can be bought separately at the Pokemon Center for $4.49, or opt for a 6-pack booster bundle priced at $26.94. Additionally, an Enhanced Booster Display box will be on sale for $161.64, containing 36 booster packs and a promotional N’s Reshiram card with a rare style illustration.
In contrast to previous sets like “Gym Heroes” and “Gym Challenge”, the upcoming “Journey Together” set will bring a unique twist to the usual composition of Trainer’s Pokemon. Instead of having only traditional or Trainer’s Pokemon, this set will offer a blend of both types. The Pokémon Company has recently disclosed that there will be over 15 Trainer’s Pokemon and more than 15 Trainer Cards in the set. This hints at the balance we can expect from the mix. It remains to be seen if this means that some packs may not include any Trainer’s Pokemon, but given the focus of the set, it seems unlikely.
If you’re new to collecting Trainer’s Pokemon cards, here’s what they’re all about: These are specific Pokemon characters that have been linked with certain game or anime characters. For instance, past Trainer’s Pokemon included Brock’s Geodude and Misty’s Psyduck, showcasing the character on the card. The unique aspect of Trainer’s Pokemon is that they can only transform into and from each other. To illustrate, N’s Zorua card won’t evolve into a standard Zoroark; instead, it can be used to evolve into either N’s Zoroark or N’s Zoroark ex. This adds an extra layer of strategy when creating decks!
