As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Pokémon fandom under my belt, I must admit that the speculation surrounding the release date of Pokémon Legends: Z-A has me both intrigued and slightly apprehensive.
It appears that a notable Pokémon Trading Card Game source suggests that the upcoming releases of new card sets might hint at a later 2025 launch for Pokémon Legends: Z-A than initially anticipated. Earlier this year, The Pokémon Company disclosed their development of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a fresh installment in the Pokémon Legends series, which takes place in the Kalos region. At present, we only know that it will be released in 2025 and that it centers around Lumiose City. Most fans assumed that it would debut early in 2025 due to the pattern of previous Pokémon Legends games and the timing of the Pokémon Legends: Z-A announcement, but one prominent Pokémon TCG platform speculates that a later release could be more likely.
Jon Sahagian from the PokeBeach Pokemon TCG site points out that the Pokemon Trading Card Game usually introduces new content related to recently released Pokemon games approximately two months after the game’s debut, specifically with Japanese card sets. As of now, the upcoming January set, titled Battle Partners, and two February pre-made decks have been listed by retailers, all seemingly connected to the reintroduction of Partner Pokemon. However, another set called The Glory of Team Rocket has been previously disclosed through trademarks but hasn’t been announced via any retail or official listings yet.
According to Sahagian’s speculation, the upcoming TCG cycle is rumored to feature Partner Pokemon returning for an extended period. This suggests that the launch date might be pushed back to late 2025, with a possible release as late as March or April 2025, which is later than initially anticipated.
It’s reasonable to infer that upon the launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, we can expect Mega Evolution Pokemon cards to reappear in the Trading Card Game (TCG). This new Pokemon game seems set to include Mega Evolution, as hinted during its announcement trailer. Since these powerful cards have been absent for almost a decade, it would be logical that they return along with the game’s release.
Absolutely, these are just educated guesses. The launch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus and other recent Pokemon games indicate that The Pokemon Company isn’t shy about deviating from their usual routines. At the moment, our knowledge is limited to the fact that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is scheduled for release in 2025.
