The creators of the Pokemon Trading Card Game really hit a home run with the Mega Evolution: Ascended Heroes collection earlier this year, delivering some of the best cards we’ve seen in a long time. It was a hard act to follow, but the next expansion, Perfect Order, arrives on March 27th. While it’s a slightly smaller set than the last one, it will introduce new cards for several Mega Pokemon first teased in Legends: Z-A.
The Perfect Order Pokémon TCG set includes three main products: an Elite Trainer Box featuring Mega Zygarde, a Booster Bundle, and a Booster Display Box. It’s a standard release focused on providing booster packs, without the extras found in special collections. Overall, Perfect Order is a solid addition to the Pokémon TCG. While it doesn’t have a ton of flashy cards, it does include some interesting Illustration Rares and a few cards players will likely use in their decks. It’s not the most exciting set recently, but it’s certainly not a bad one either.
Rating: 3 out of 5
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Some stunning full arts with decent pull rates | Relatively small expansion with just 120 cards |
| A handful of solid, playable item and trainer cards | Fewer standout cards for both collectors & players compared to other recent sets |
| Good overall card variety per pack | Average to low ex pull rates |
Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution – Perfect Order Has Some Adorable Card Art, But It’s Few and Far Between

Opening packs from the Perfect Order set was a bit of a mixed experience. I opened 55 packs total, and I appreciated that it focused on booster packs rather than including a lot of extra, non-pack items. While many of the common Pokémon, Trainer, and Item cards were decent, they weren’t particularly memorable. The card quality seemed good overall, but the artwork on most of the regular cards wasn’t exciting enough to really stand out.
I did get a few Illustration Rares, and they were really beautiful – especially the ones featuring Pokemon like Spewpa and Espurr! I was genuinely surprised by how cute some of the cards were, so the art is definitely a highlight of the Perfect Order set. However, this set doesn’t seem to have any incredibly rare or highly sought-after cards compared to more recent Pokemon releases. There aren’t many Special Illustration Rares or Hyper Rares, and unfortunately, they don’t feature any of the most popular Pokemon.
This new Pokémon card set features Mega Clefairy, Mega Starmie, and Mega Zygarde, each with a beautifully illustrated ‘ex’ card. Mega Zygarde also appears as a rare ‘Hyper’ card. The set includes a new ‘ex’ card for Meowth, and a special illustrated version of it as well. While these cards look great with vibrant colors, I think the regular cards in the set are actually more impressive.
Collectors who enjoy completing sets will likely appreciate that Perfect Order is a smaller set with a limited number of hard-to-find rare cards. The illustrated rare cards are particularly beautiful, and I found they appeared fairly often – I pulled 8 of them from just 55 packs, along with one Ultra Rare and a single Special Illustration Rare.
Perfect Order Could Be a Good Chance to Add New Cards to Your Play Deck

Okay, so as a completionist, I’m pretty happy with the relatively small number of cards in this set. But honestly, I don’t think serious rare card collectors are going to be blown away. Some of the Illustration Rares are gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but the artwork on the regular cards actually looks better than a lot of the rarer ones. That means there probably won’t be a ton of super valuable chase cards that everyone’s scrambling for – which is a bummer if you’re like me and love the hunt for a stunning, rare card (I’m still obsessed with that Ascended Heroes Psyduck!). However, if you’re just looking to shake up your Pokemon TCG deck and try some new strategies, this set could be exactly what you need.
The cards in the Perfect Order set show promise for fun gameplay. The popular Poke Pad is back, and I’ve seen it appear quite often in my card pulls. This set also introduces some new Special Energy cards that could be useful if they match your deck’s energy type. While there aren’t any standout, incredibly powerful cards, there are lots of solid, playable options. Plus, Perfect Order seems to be more readily available in stores than some other recent Pokemon TCG sets, which is good news for players.
This set seems to have a good mix of common Pokémon cards in each pack, which is great for both playing and collecting. You won’t find the same few cards over and over again. However, if you’re hoping to pull powerful ‘ex’ cards, you might be disappointed. I opened 55 packs and only found a small number of them, and many were duplicates. So, while there’s plenty of variety with regular cards, the selection of powerful ‘ex’ cards in this set isn’t very strong.
This expansion had some truly outstanding cards, but most of it felt fairly typical. While Perfect Order isn’t as impressive as some other major sets, Pokemon TCG players will likely still find it enjoyable when it releases later this month.
