The Pokémon TCG Pocket app launched in October 2024 and quickly became popular. As it approaches its first anniversary, the game is receiving a large, free content update. On October 23rd, DeNA announced the new expansion, Mega Rising, and several other features coming to the app as part of the anniversary celebration.
New Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) packs are released in Pokémon TCG Pocket roughly every month. The recent “Deluxe Pack: ex” was a bit different, bringing back older, hard-to-find cards instead of introducing new ones. But on October 30th, a new set called “Mega Rising” will launch, bringing plenty of fresh cards to collect. This release also marks the beginning of a new series in Pokémon TCG Pocket, which likely means significant changes to the game’s current strategies. A free update on October 30th will include these new packs, as well as some improvements to the game itself.
Mega Rising Expansion and Free Pokemon TCG Pocket Anniversary Update Details, Explained
Following the usual pattern, Pokemon TCG Pocket announced the new expansion with a short trailer highlighting some of the upcoming cards. As the name Mega Rising suggests, this expansion will feature powerful new Mega Evolution ex cards. With Mega Evolution being a key part of the recently released Pokemon Legends: Z-A and now returning to the physical card game, this addition makes a lot of sense. You can watch the trailer for Mega Rising below!
The new trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A revealed several Mega Pokémon that players will encounter, such as Mega Altaria, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Gyarados. These three Pokémon will also be featured on the artwork for the three booster packs in the new set. The trailer also showcased Mega ex cards for Pinsir, Absol, and Ampharos. Additionally, new Trainer and Support cards were previewed, adding to a large and exciting card list for the first set in the Pokemon TCG Pocket B Series.
New Pokémon Trading Card Game packs will be available starting October 30th, and that’s not all! This update will also bring some helpful improvements, including a long-awaited update to Wonder Picks and more ways to trade cards.
So, with the new anniversary update, we’re getting a cool way to help out our friends! Every day, I’ll be able to send a card with up to 4 Diamonds to a buddy, and they can send one back. That includes cards from the newest expansion, but it’s just one card each way per day. They’re also expanding what cards we can trade – now it’ll include cards from the latest boosters and expansions. Even better, we can now trade those shiny 1 and 2-Diamond cards too! And finally, the Wonder Pick feature is getting a boost – it’ll prioritize showing me cards from the newest expansion that I haven’t collected yet, which is awesome!

Honestly, I’m really hyped about how they’re celebrating the one-year anniversary of Pokemon TCG Pocket! Knowing Pokemon, I’m guessing we’ll probably get an in-game event with some new quests and rewards to grab. That’s just a hunch, though. We’ll have to wait and see when the next Pokemon TCG Pocket update drops on October 30th to find out for sure!
Pokemon TCG Pocket is a free mobile game for both Apple (iOS) and Android devices. You can choose to make optional purchases or subscribe for extra features within the game.
