Pokemon Teases New 30th Anniversary Celebration Video (And It’s Coming Sooner Than We Thought)

Chances are you already know Pokémon is turning 30 this year! While we’ve seen a few hints about special Pokémon Trading Card Game items and plush toys, most fans thought the big announcements wouldn’t come until Pokémon Day on February 27th. Pokémon Day usually includes a ‘Pokémon Presents’ video showcasing what’s coming for the franchise. But this year, Pokémon is giving fans an early 30th anniversary video a few weeks beforehand.

Pokémon announced a new teaser revealing a 30th anniversary video will be shown during the Super Bowl on February 8th. For those unfamiliar, the Super Bowl is a major American football event happening this Sunday. This video is arriving earlier than many fans anticipated as the first big celebration of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, and it’s likely just the start of the celebrations.

Pokemon is Headed to the Super Bowl to Kick Off Its 30th Anniversary Celebrations

The latest trailer features Jigglypuff, the beloved Pokémon! We see the pink, floating creature singing to itself. While the trailer is adorable, it doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming Super Bowl ad. However, The Pokémon Company International announced that this video marks the start of a year-long celebration of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary.

The Pokémon Company announced that their Super Bowl commercial will showcase how Pokémon connects people through a shared passion for the games. It will also be a tribute to fans around the world. Based on a recent preview, many believe the ad will playfully reference the iconic moment when Jigglypuff gets upset that audiences fall asleep during its performances. There’s even speculation that Jigglypuff might appear with the halftime show performers, Bad Bunny and Green Day.

Super Bowl commercials usually end up on YouTube, so you can likely find the new Pokémon video there after it airs during the game. If you want to watch it live, the Super Bowl starts at 6:30 PM ET on Sunday, February 8th. However, it’s hard to say exactly when the Pokémon ad will play, as the Super Bowl features lots of commercials spread throughout the entire game.

Pokemon Center Drops New 30th Anniversary Merch Ahead of Super Bowl Spot

We probably won’t know exactly what the Pokémon Super Bowl ad will be about until it airs on February 8th. However, Pokémon has hinted that they’ll share more details about a year-long campaign shortly after the game. This could mean another Pokémon Presents presentation is coming soon, or that we’ll find out more about celebrations for the 30th anniversary. Either way, it looks like Pokémon has some exciting plans to mark three decades of the franchise.

Want to start celebrating early? The Pokémon Center has a new collection of merchandise for the 30th anniversary! They’ve added lots of new items, including t-shirts, notebooks, and ornaments, all featuring the special 30th anniversary logo. There are also a few Pokémon Trading Card Game products available – but they might sell out quickly!
