So, I was super hyped for Pokémon Winds and Waves, but it looks like we’re going to be waiting until 2027 to play it. And honestly, it seems like the Gen 10 games might be more expensive than we initially thought, even after the Pokémon Day announcement. They haven’t given us a firm release date yet, but they’ve officially said some of us are going to have to pay a bit more than expected. Bummer!
Currently, Pokémon Winds and Waves is generating a lot of curiosity, but not a lot of concrete information. We’ve met the new starter Pokémon, seen some familiar faces like Wailord and Gloom, and gotten a first look at the game’s island setting, though its name hasn’t been revealed yet. While a 2027 release is confirmed, rumors suggest it will likely be released towards the end of the year. With so much still unknown about these Gen 10 games, news about pricing feels a bit premature.
Pokémon Winds & Waves Just Got More Expensive
Nintendo had previously revealed that most new Switch 2 games would be priced higher for physical copies than for digital downloads – typically around $10 more. We recently saw this with the game Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which costs $69.99 to buy as a physical cartridge but only $59.99 digitally. Because of this, it was expected that Pokémon Winds and Waves would also cost more in its physical form.
Most people were already expecting to pay around $70 for new games, but those waiting for the next generation of games and a Switch 2 console will likely pay more. The price of the Switch 2 is going up in September, increasing by $50 to $499.99 in the U.S.
Basically, if you hold off on buying a Switch 2 until the release of Pokémon Winds and Waves, you’ll likely pay an extra $50. This assumes the Switch 2 price doesn’t go up again between September 2026 and the game’s launch in 2027. Given that prices are constantly increasing, it’s very possible the Switch 2 will cost even more by the time Winds and Waves is available.
I Wouldn’t Wait To Buy A Switch 2
If you’re thinking of buying Winds and Waves when it comes out, it might be worth getting a Switch 2 now if you can. Even if you don’t plan on playing any games exclusive to the new console right away, you could save at least $50 after September. The reliable Pokémon news source, Centro Leaks, recently suggested the same thing, warning that the price of the Switch 2 could go up before the game’s release.
It seems like prices are going up for everything these days, from video games to groceries. Both the new Switch 2 and PlayStation consoles are costing more, and we expect the Switch 2 could be priced at $550 or even $600 when the game Pokémon Winds and Waves is released. If you’re able to, it might be smart to buy a Switch 2 now before the price goes up.
