Poll: Should God of War Trilogy Remake Adopt the Gameplay Style of Ragnarok?

We don’t have much information about the God of War Trilogy Remake right now. It’s still being developed and likely won’t be released for quite some time. That’s all we know for sure at the moment.

Everyone keeps talking about whether the game will have those classic mini-games, but we’re more interested in knowing how much of a complete overhaul this remake actually is.

Essentially, we’re wondering if the planned remake of the original God of War trilogy will just be a graphical update of the first three games, or if it will completely reimagine them to appeal to players who are used to the newer God of War and God of War Ragnarok games.

How long this will take really depends on how much work is involved. Completely rebuilding the games would take much longer than just updating the graphics, and we’re dealing with three games in total.

When it comes to remakes in gaming, there are generally two approaches. One, exemplified by studios like Bluepoint Games with titles such as Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, focuses on preserving the original gameplay, systems, and mechanics while dramatically updating the graphics. Essentially, they keep everything the same under the hood but give it a modern visual overhaul.

The second type of remake is much bolder. It completely revamps older games, essentially rebuilding them from the ground up. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a prime example – it’s a thoroughly updated and reimagined version of the original classic.

A good example of this is Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter – a complete rebuild of a classic, older RPG. It’s been updated from a 2D, top-down perspective to a fully 3D game, while also incorporating gameplay elements from newer titles in the series.

Let’s imagine the original God of War games were remade with the same style and gameplay as the newer titles. Is that a far-fetched idea? Or could it actually work? Perhaps Santa Monica Studio plans to update the first three games to match Ragnarök, creating a unified and seamless series overall.

To be honest, it’s probably too much to ask for that much effort to be put into those three games – especially considering they’re all already highly acclaimed classics.

Honestly, it feels like we’re building three separate games at this stage. If you take away Kratos’ core combat – the Blades of Chaos stuff – how much is actually finished? It’s like starting from scratch in a lot of areas.

For example, the game’s levels would need a complete overhaul to support a camera that lets you look over your character’s shoulder. Plus, all the enemies would have to be rebuilt to function with the new way of fighting. It’s all starting to seem a little over the top…

Okay, so just imagine if they could actually pull this off! I’m really curious to know – would you even want the Trilogy Remake team to try? That’s what I’m trying to figure out, and I’d love to hear your thoughts! Make sure to vote in the poll, and then tell me why you feel that way in the comments!
