After a somewhat slower pace in June and July, the release of games on PS5 is definitely picking up speed again.
For game reviewers such as ourselves, August proved to be quite a bustling month. Notable games with great anticipation were released on Sony’s latest console, leading us to award several exceptionally high ratings.
Among the victorious games were titles such as Metal Gear Solid Delta, Sword of the Sea, and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Each one received a top-tier rating of ‘excellent’ with 9/10 reviews, and they all provide unique experiences distinct from one another.
As a devoted gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but express my admiration for Delta, a remarkable reimagining that manages to seamlessly blend modern elements with the timeless essence of an all-time favorite title. Truth be told, awarding Game of the Month to a revival isn’t typically something we jump at, whether it’s a remaster or remake. However, Delta undeniably stands as a strong candidate for August’s accolade.
Simultaneously, Sword of the Sea impressed us with its seamlessly fluid gameplay and stunning visual style. It’s a title reminiscent of Journey, but truly carves out its unique identity as a serene and thought-provoking work of art.
Furthermore, Shinobi offers a thrilling action-platformer experience that is immensely satisfying to navigate through. While Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound’s victory as July’s Game of the Month left our side-scrolling cravings quenched, this revival of SEGA’s beloved series might just outshine it.
As a devoted gaming enthusiast, I must admit that August brought some letdowns too. The anticipated titles, Mafia: The Old Country and Lost Soul Aside, fell short of the mark compared to my expectations. Mafia’s outdated design felt like a burden, hindering its potential impact. On the other hand, Lost Soul Aside, despite years in development, failed to rival its inspirations.
Every time, it’s up to you whether you concur with our evaluations. Before we move on to the monthly game voting though, let’s take a quick look back at the games we’ve crowned as winners so far in 2025…
