Popular 10-Year-Old Strategy Game Is Shutting Down (But It’s Not All Bad News)

It’s sad when a game you enjoy stops being updated, but all online games eventually come to an end. For players of the strategy card game Shadowverse, that time is near. Cygames, the team behind Shadowverse, has announced the game will no longer be available after 10 years. The mobile and PC game will officially shut down on June 30th at 10 PM Eastern Time.

Shadowverse, a strategy card game that first came out in June 2016, has been consistently updated over the years. Originally created as a spin-off from Rage of Bahamut, it went on to inspire several other games. However, Cygames recently announced that Shadowverse will no longer be available starting in 2026. While the original game is ending, its successor, Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, will continue to be supported. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know about the upcoming shutdown of Shadowverse.

Shadowverse Shutting Down This June, Here’s the End-of-Service Schedule

Cygames has just announced that Shadowverse will officially end service on June 30th. Before it goes offline, players can still enjoy one last Battle Pass season and a few returning events. So, there’s still time to play before the game closes this summer.

Starting March 25th, in-game crystals will no longer be available for purchase. The final season of the game, Season 23, begins on March 31st, and all players will automatically receive the Premium Pass. Throughout April and May, card rotations will be reset, giving you another opportunity to collect cards you’re missing. Finally, the game will officially shut down on June 30th. After this date, you won’t be able to connect your account to Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond or play the original Shadowverse game. You can find a complete schedule of these changes on the official Shadowverse website.

Cygames hasn’t explained why they’re ending support for Shadowverse, but after a decade, the game may have simply run its course. Another factor is the release of Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond earlier this year, which hasn’t been as well-received as the original. Cygames might want to concentrate its efforts on supporting just one Shadowverse card game, in addition to their other successful titles like Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

The original Shadowverse game will be discontinued in June. However, its successor, Worlds Beyond, will continue to be available. This means fans can still enjoy the card game, even though this marks the end of an era for Shadowverse. Like the original, Worlds Beyond is free to play on both PC and mobile devices.

Man, Shadowverse is shutting down? I can’t believe it! If you’re still playing, I’d love to hear what you think about it. Let’s chat about it over on the ComicBook Forum – come join the discussion!
