David Mitchell‘s popular comedy game show Outsiders has been confirmed not to be returning.
In 2023, the third season of the Dave original series was broadcast, where stand-up comics took on challenges independently and frequently sparked discussions about the earlier Dave show titled Taskmaster.
Additionally on the program, alongside Mitchell, were comedians such as Alan Davies, Kerry Godliman, Ed Gamble, Jessica Hynes, and Judi Love.
At the Edinburgh TV Festival in 2025, Hilary Rosen, the head of commissioning at UKTV, shared that the show wouldn’t make a comeback.
As for the show, I can confirm that it’s not active right now, and we’ve already made a public statement about this. Regarding potential future involvement, while I can’t say definitively, I think it’s safe to say it’s not on the immediate horizon. The truth is, we both enjoyed working on it immensely, especially with [David].
It’s clear that we’d love to explore more collaborations with David Mitchell, given our excellent working rapport with him.

Following his description of him as an exceptional talent, Rosen expressed eagerness for innovative and engaging discussions with Mitchell. However, he mentioned that Mitchell is quite occupied and challenging to arrange a lunch meeting with.
He prefers not to emulate the dominant, fearless, unpredictable authority figure style, contrasting with his own persona. Starting from his role as the chairman on The Unbelievable Truth on Radio 4, he aims to portray himself as a slightly confused, irritable, and indecisive leader, rather than the stern and commanding character of Greg Davies on Taskmaster.
Indeed, Mitchell’s illustrious career remains robust, as fans rejoice over news that the BBC recently greenlit a second season of his crime series, Ludwig, towards the end of last year.
