As a huge RPG fan, I’ve always loved Square Enix – they’re behind some of the most amazing games like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, with stories and gameplay that really pull you in. I was so excited to hear that the tabletop RPG version of Octopath Traveler is finally getting an English release! I first played Octopath Traveler on the Nintendo Switch back in 2018, and I’ve been hooked ever since – we’ve even gotten sequels and prequels already. It’s awesome that the world of Octopath Traveler is expanding with this TTRPG!
As a huge fan of Octopath Traveler, I was so excited to hear that the tabletop RPG is finally getting an English release! Game Informer announced it’s happening this October, and Dark Horse is publishing it with Square Enix. It originally came out in Japan in 2022, and it’s a way to play in the world of Octopath Traveler with friends using tabletop rules. With the game getting more popular over here, it’s awesome that we’re finally getting a chance to try the TTRPG too!
The Octopath Traveler TPRG Is Finally Coming to the U.S.

The original Octopath Traveler launched in 2018 and introduced the beautiful HD-2D art style now known throughout Square Enix’s games. It was a hit with both critics and players, leading to the release of Octopath Traveler 2 in 2023 and the prequel, Octopath Traveler 0, late last year. It’s clear there’s a strong fanbase for this new JRPG, and it looks like it will become a long-running series like Final Fantasy. Now, alongside the video games, the first English translation of the tabletop role-playing game based on the Octopath Traveler universe is being released.
The Octopath Traveler role-playing game uses a simple rule system based on rolling two six-sided dice, much like Barbarians of Lumuria and Traveller. This type of system is common in Japanese fantasy role-playing games, which fits well with the game’s style. The core rulebook provides everything players need to create and play adventures in the world of Orsterra, including character creation rules and pre-made characters inspired by the Octopath Traveler series.
Although this tabletop RPG is new to English-speaking audiences, it’s already been playtested in Japan with positive results. The game successfully adapts the video game’s mechanics for tabletop play, offering exciting combat and compelling character customization. Plus, the rulebook’s artwork cleverly captures the distinctive 2.5D visual style of the Octopath Traveler video games.

An exact release date for the English version of Octopath Traveler TRPG hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s currently planned for release in October 2026. The core rulebook in English will cost $59.99. Dark Horse and Square Enix promise to share more information closer to the launch date. If you’re a fan of both tabletop role-playing games and Japanese role-playing games, this is one to watch!
