Throughout the history of Power Rangers, several memorable characters started as villains before becoming heroes. Examples include Tommy Oliver from Mighty Morphin, Blake and Hunter Bradley from Ninja Storm, Trent Fernandez-Mercer from Dino Thunder, and Ryan Mitchell from Lightspeed Rescue. The series has now added another Ranger who begins as a villain, and fans of a specific season will be particularly shocked to learn their identity.
I’m so hyped for the finale of Power Rangers Prime! It’s building up to this huge final battle, and things just got even more intense. We already knew Trey of Triforia was back as this corrupted Gold Ranger, working for the Legion Ravager, but now we’ve learned he’s not alone. The latest issue of Power Rangers and some awesome art revealed that Lauren Shiba’s father is also going to be a corrupted Ranger – the Samurai Red Ranger! This is going to be epic, and honestly, a little heartbreaking.

The Corrupted Samurai Red Ranger Is Heartbreaking For Power Rangers Prime’s Leader

The design of the evil Red Samurai Ranger is really cool, and it closely matches the look of the corrupted Gold Ranger. This makes sense if you’ve read Power Rangers Prime #15, which reveals that Lauren’s father is now working with the Legion Ravager, making him an accomplice to the corrupted Gold Ranger.
For years, Lauren has been searching for her family, who were taken by the Eltarians and kept hidden to prevent her from finding them. She’s finally reunited with her father and younger brother, Jayden, in issue #14 of Power Rangers Prime. However, issue #15 hints that something is wrong with Mr. Shiba, who has persuaded Jayden to become involved in his plans.
Lauren faces a heartbreaking battle: she must fight not only her corrupted father, who was once a Red Ranger, but also her beloved younger brother, who always admired her. While there’s hope Jayden might switch sides from the Legion Ravager, a preview of Power Rangers Prime #16 suggests convincing him to fully reject his father will be incredibly difficult. Lauren’s father continues to try and bring her over to his side, but his plans would endanger everyone on Earth – a sacrifice Lauren isn’t willing to make.
We’ll find out soon whether the last issue will reveal more Rangers falling under some kind of control, or if the promised massive Zord fight will finally happen. Either way, the wait isn’t much longer.
Power Rangers Prime #16 hits comics stores on April 8, 2026.
