After a lengthy development process, Pragmata is now scheduled to launch on PS5 in 2026. The developers recently shared some insight into the reasons behind the game’s extended development time.
Capcom first revealed Pragmata in 2020 during a PlayStation 5 event, originally planning to launch the game in 2022.
Of course, that never happened, and it’s now set for launch four years later than projected.
So, I was reading an interview with Cho Yonghee, the director of the game, over at TheGamer, and he was explaining why it’s taken so long to make. Basically, he was giving us the inside scoop on the development timeline.
While the basic idea behind Pragmata has remained consistent, creating the game’s unique hacking puzzles turned out to be a major challenge.
That was a major cause of the delay. We spent a lot of time experimenting and making adjustments to figure out the best approach.
Producer Naoto Oyama explains that the game stands out due to its blend of shooting action and hacking elements.
The combination of Diana’s hacking skills and Hugo’s shooting abilities meant we spent extra time developing the game. We really focused on getting everything properly balanced.
The presentation also had some issues, as Yonghee and Oyama couldn’t agree on how much time to dedicate to showing the hacking scenes during the fight.
The developers also comment on the game’s announcement all the way back in 2020.
Releasing the game’s announcement so soon actually pushed us to work harder,” Yonghee explained to TheGamer. “Without that early trailer, Pragmata might have turned out very differently.
It took a long time to develop this game for the PS5, but now that it’s almost here, it looks like it will have been worth the wait.
We’ve tested this device twice, and both times were really impressed by its innovative design.
