It didn’t take long for the film to become the most popular movie available for direct purchase on Apple TV. According to data from FlixPatrol, it’s now the top streamed movie in the Apple TV Store.
The game Predator: Badlands is now number one on the Apple TV Store chart, moving Wicked: For Good to second place. Nuremberg and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t round out the top four.
As a big fan of the Predator movies, I was really happy to see Predator: Badlands do so well! It actually made a solid $184.4 million in theaters, which is pretty great for this franchise, especially considering it only cost around $105 million to make. It’s encouraging to see them taking risks and having it pay off, both in theaters and now with its success as a PVOD release.
The new Predator film has received a “Certified Fresh” rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. While not as highly rated as Predator: Killer of Killers (95%) or Prey (94%), it’s a significant step up from previous installments, including the original Predator and Predators.
The Predator Franchise Heads in New Directions
Unlike previous Predator movies where the alien hunts humans on Earth, Predator: Badlands tells a different story. It focuses on a young Predator named Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) who is trying to prove himself to his father by hunting seemingly invincible creatures. He teams up with a damaged android named Thia (Elle Fanning) to accomplish this.
With the positive reception of Predator: Badlands, more Predator movies are definitely planned. Director Dan Trachtenberg explained that both Badlands and the original Predator have laid the groundwork for future installments.
Trachtenberg explained that there are endless possibilities for expanding the story, whether through animation or live-action. They can explore new characters, time periods, and locations, venturing into uncharted territory for the sci-fi genre. He’s particularly excited about the potential for unique and original storylines that haven’t been done before.
As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear the producer, Ben Rosenblatt, talking about the possibility of bringing Arnold Schwarzenegger back for another Predator movie! He mentioned at the Predator: Badlands premiere that getting Arnold involved is definitely something they’re thinking about. It just feels right, you know? He is the franchise, and it made him a legend, and vice versa. It would be amazing to see him back!
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dan have had a few meetings, and he’s been very engaged with our work. From what I gather, he’s a big fan of what we’ve created so far, and we’re thrilled about that. Once Predator: Badlands is released, we’ll explore possibilities and discuss things further. We’re hoping we can collaborate with Arnold on a future project – it would be fantastic.
Predator: Badlands is now available on PVOD platforms including the Apple TV Store.
