The Predator movies are popular again, thanks to recent successes like Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers, which both received positive reviews and were enjoyed by viewers. However, those films were released directly on streaming. Now, Predator faces a bigger challenge with Predator: Badlands, the first new movie in seven years to hit theaters. This release is hoping to revive the franchise, potentially leading to a big crossover with the Alien films. For the series to continue, Badlands needs to perform well at the box office, and initial sales predictions are now available.
Reports from Deadline suggest the new movie Predator: Badlands is expected to make about $25 million in its first three days in the US. While this would be the second-highest opening weekend ever for a Predator film—only behind Alien vs. Predator’s $38.2 million—it’s a somewhat uncertain result. It’s notably lower than the opening weekend for Disney’s recent sci-fi film Tron: Ares ($33.2 million), which is projected to lose $100 million overall.
Can Predator: Badlands Exceed Box Office Projections?

Following a weak October – the worst in nearly three decades, not counting 2020 – movie theaters are hoping for better results this month. While the industry anticipates big numbers from Wicked: For Good and Zootopia 2 during the Thanksgiving holiday, many are also watching to see how other films perform in the weeks before. The Predator franchise hasn’t always been a huge box office success, but it’s recently become popular again. While early predictions for Predator: Badlands aren’t great, there’s still potential for the movie to do well.
Several movies have surprised audiences this year by performing better than predicted. This was especially true for horror films like The Conjuring: Last Rite, which had a record-breaking opening weekend. Blockbusters like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps also exceeded expectations. Positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth seem to be key factors in these films’ success. Predator: Badlands is currently receiving very positive feedback, as shown by its high Rotten Tomatoes score. Like director Dan Trachtenberg’s previous Predator films, Badlands is proving to be a hit with viewers.
As a big movie fan, I’m excited to see Predator: Badlands really has the field to itself right now. Nothing else currently in theaters seems to be competing with it, and there aren’t any major releases challenging it either. The other new films this week – Christy, Die My Love, and Sarah’s Oil – seem aimed at a different audience. With Tron: Ares not doing so well, Predator: Badlands is stepping up as the perfect choice for a truly exciting, big-screen experience. Plus, the early reviews are great, especially about the action – and they say you don’t even need to worry about the PG-13 rating! It sounds like a must-see for action fans.
The financial success of Predator: Badlands will largely depend on how much it cost to make. Tron: Ares lost a lot of money because its production cost was between $180 and $220 million. While Badlands wasn’t made on a tiny budget, it was likely cheaper than Ares. Generally, the lower the production cost, the better a film’s chances of making a profit. Therefore, even if Badlands doesn’t open as strongly as Ares, it wouldn’t necessarily be a failure.
