Following his work on 2022’s Prey and the animated film Predator: Killer of Killers, director Dan Trachtenberg introduces a new, self-contained Predator story. This film takes place decades in the future on a distant planet.
Although the Predator movies have focused on four main stories (plus two team-ups), the new film, Badlands, will expand on the broader Predator lore. It starts on the Predators’ home planet and delves into their culture.
Badlands is taking the franchise in a new direction, focusing heavily on science fiction and fantasy elements. The game’s story is expected to significantly expand the lore, offering exciting new details for longtime fans.
The final trailer for Predator: Badlands is here, and the release date is almost upon us! Here’s a complete guide to everything you need to know about the new installment.
Predator: Badlands release date – when does the film come out?
Predator: Badlands will hit US theaters exclusively on Friday, November 7th. Like many movies from 20th Century Studios, it will eventually be available on Disney+, but a specific streaming date hasn’t been announced yet.
For now, the movie will only be available to watch in theaters. It’s also coming to IMAX, and the trailer suggests that’s the ideal way to experience it.
Predator: Badlands cast – who stars in the movie?

Predator: Badlands has a very limited cast list, with only two names listed:
- Elle Fanning as Thia
- Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek
Although Fanning appears in the trailers, Schuster-Koloamatangi won’t be visibly shown, because his character, Dek, is one of the Predators and doesn’t have a human face.
For the movie, stuntman Schuster-Koloamatangi not only learned the language of the Predator but also brought the character Dek to life using both practical effects and digital technology. He wore a full creature suit, and his facial expressions were captured using motion-capture technology. This allowed filmmakers to create a digital version of Dek’s face that closely matched Schuster-Koloamatangi’s performance.
Fanning not only played the character Thia, but also portrayed many other synthetic humans – robots sent to the Predators’ home planet.
In an interview with SFX, actress Fanning discussed the unusual challenge of playing her character, who is often seen only from the waist up. Because her character is frequently carried by Dek after being cut in half, Fanning joked that her co-star, Dimitrious, had a lot of physical work to do.
Predator: Badlands plot – what happens in Badlands?

Unlike other movies in the Predator series, this film focuses on a Predator as the main character. Dek is a Predator who’s different from his own people, and he unexpectedly becomes friends with a human named Thia. The story takes place on the Predators’ dangerous home planet, where everything is a threat, and follows Dek and Thia as they fight to survive.
The movie hints that an odd pair will be hunting for a powerful enemy, but details are scarce. What that enemy is remains a mystery. However, we know Thia and Dek will encounter many dangerous creatures along the way – creatures that see the Predators we’re familiar with as something to hunt.
