Predator: Badlands Tops Blu-ray and DVD Sales Charts

Released on February 17th, Predator: Badlands quickly became the top-selling movie on Blu-ray and DVD in its first week. It topped the Circana VideoScan chart, which combines sales from both Blu-ray and DVD formats.

I’m so glad to see Predator: Badlands doing so well! The Blu-ray and DVD release is just the latest win for the movie. It started strong, bringing in $40 million, and that really helped it reach a fantastic $184 million worldwide at the box office – making it one of the most successful Predator films ever!

The film initially launched as a rental title, and then premiered on the streaming service, quickly becoming its most popular release (following in the footsteps of its earlier hit, Prey).

The film has received a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 86% of critics giving it a positive review. While not the highest rated in the Predator series—Predator: Killer of Killers and Prey both scored higher at 95% and 94% respectively—it’s still better than average for the franchise.

Predator: Badlands Was a Game-Changer for the Series

Unlike previous Predator films, Predator: Badlands tells the story from the perspective of a Yautja – one of the creatures formerly known as Predators. The film centers on Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a young Yautja trying to earn his family’s respect by hunting seemingly invincible creatures on a dangerous planet. He’s assisted on his quest by Thia (Elle Fanning), a damaged android from the Weyland-Yutani corporation.

Though Predator: Badlands is the seventh Predator film, it follows more closely after Prey, the most recent movie in the series. Both Badlands and Prey were directed by Dan Trachtenberg and released on Hulu, with a new installment debuting on the streaming service earlier in 2025 before Badlands’ release.

Dan Trachtenberg, the director behind Prey, and other Predator installments like Predator: Killer of Killers and Predator: Badlands, has signed a new agreement with Paramount. He’s confirmed he’ll continue working on the Predator series, though he’s still exploring ideas for its future direction.

As a huge movie fan, I was really intrigued by what director Trachtenberg said recently. He was talking about the future of the Predator franchise, and it sounds like the possibilities are endless! He mentioned they can explore stories through animation or live-action, and really delve into new characters, time periods, and locations we haven’t seen before. What excites him – and honestly, me too – is taking the series in directions other sci-fi franchises just haven’t dared to go. It’s a really exciting time for Predator fans!

As a big fan of the Predator universe, I’m excited to share that Predator: Badlands is finally out! You can grab it on Blu-ray or DVD, but if you prefer streaming, it’s currently available on Hulu. Or, if you want to watch it right away, you can rent or buy it digitally on various platforms.
