Predator Franchise’s Most Underrated Movie Dominates Streaming 15 Years Later

Originally overlooked, the 2010 film has become a hit on streaming platforms and is now considered a standout entry in the Predator series. Directed by Nimród Antal, the third film in the sci-fi action franchise received mixed reviews at first, but has since gained a dedicated following.

The movie Predators is having another moment with viewers, currently ranking as the fourth most-watched film on Paramount+ in the U.S. It’s proving more popular than other titles like Dear Santa, Top Gun: Maverick, American Made, Scrooged, Guns Up, and Fatman.

Currently, the most popular titles on Paramount+ are American Made (2013), Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025), and, at number one, Roofman (2025). Predators is also gaining traction on the streaming service following the November release of Predator: Badlands (2025), which critics liked but didn’t perform strongly in theaters.

Predators showcases Adrien Brody in a rare action-packed role, playing Royce, a mercenary who finds himself on a dangerous planet hunted by the iconic alien creatures. The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Laurence Fishburne, Walton Goggins, Alice Braga, Mahershala Ali, Topher Grace, and Danny Trejo.

The 2010 Predator film was intended as a fresh start for the series after Predator 2 (1990). It earned $127 million globally, making it the most successful Predator movie up to that point, though later films would earn more. Despite being profitable with a $40 million budget, the movie received a somewhat lukewarm response from critics and audiences.

Critics gave Predators a middling score of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences liked it even less, giving it a 52% rating. However, the film has gained a more positive reputation over time, thanks to its unique take on the franchise, strong cast, and intense action.

Originally, the movie Predators was intended to launch a new series of three films, but a sequel was never produced. While the film’s recent popularity on streaming services won’t revive the idea of a trilogy, it does show how much people still enjoy the Predator franchise and this movie in particular.

The future of the Predator franchise is still uncertain. Dan Trachtenberg, who directed Prey (2022) and is working on Predator: Killer of Killers (2025) and Badlands, is now leading the series. While a sequel to Prey was announced, it’s currently unclear whether that project will actually happen.

Despite some uncertainty about what’s next for the series, people are still watching and enjoying Predators on streaming platforms years after its release. The film boasts a talented cast, a compelling story idea, and plenty of action, which clearly appeals to viewers.
