In late March, Marvel Studios officially announced the initial 27 actors for “Avengers: Doomsday.” It’s anticipated that more veterans from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will join the cast shortly. The first casting announcement for “Avengers: Doomsday” was unique, lasting over five hours and resembling a chair-laying ceremony. This event featured some expected choices as well as unexpected surprises. However, several Marvel Cinematic Universe stars were notably absent from the initial announcement. As production is already progressing, there’s speculation that another chair-laying ceremony could be held soon to introduce these missing cast members.
Apart from familiar faces like Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Mackie, along with the casts of the New Avengers and Fantastic Four groups, Marvel Studios has confirmed that some actors from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise will rejoin the team in Avengers: Doomsday. This hints at a storyline crossing multiple universes, potentially leading to further cast additions. With 27 actors already set, such as Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom, there could be an additional 27 stars to come, and here are our top guesses for who might show up in the Russo brothers’ upcoming interconnected series.
27) Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes’ War Machine
It’s unfortunate that one of the original armored heroes from the MCU, Rhodey, was seemingly replaced by a Skrull in “Secret Invasion,” and we haven’t been given an explanation yet. The upcoming movie, “Avengers: Doomsday,” could provide an excellent platform for Don Cheadle to reappear. Maybe he’d share some insights about his encounters with the Skrulls, then step into a more significant role as the keeper of Tony Stark’s Iron Man legacy. Given that Downey Jr. is coming back as an antagonist, it would be exciting to see how Rhodey, Stark’s friend, reacts to this development. Therefore, we hope to see War Machine make a return in this film.
26) Brie Larson as Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel has played a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since her introduction in 2019, but unfortunately, she’s faced some perplexing and unjust criticism in more recent times. Despite receiving positive reviews, the film “The Marvels” became the lowest-earning MCU movie to date, leading to a need for Brie Larson to reprise her role as Captain Marvel in “Avengers: Doomsday” to restore her cosmic character’s reputation. Her contributions were crucial to the storyline of “Avengers: Endgame,” and she had already tackled the multiverse by 2023, so it seems fitting for her to rejoin the Avengers again in 2026 to take on Doctor Doom.
25) Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner’s Hulk
It came as a shock not to find Mark Ruffalo’s name listed among the initial cast of MCU actors set for Avengers: Doomsday. After all, Bruce Banner has been central to the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its inception and undergone some extraordinary transformations, culminating in him becoming Smart Hulk during Endgame. Given that we last saw him with his Sakaarian son, Skaar (played by Wil Deusner), it would add more significance to the storyline if Banner were to return in Doomsday. This could also serve to deepen the Hulk’s narrative even further. The Russo brothers made some debatable decisions regarding the Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, so Doomsday might provide an opportunity for redemption in terms of how they handle his character moving forward.
24) Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters’ She-Hulk
It would be wonderful if Tatiana Maslany’s character, Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk, were to make a comeback alongside Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. Despite the disappointing visual effects and negative reviews following the release of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, she is an intriguing, humorous, and powerful character who has added a unique flair to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We eagerly await her return to collaborate with Ruffalo once more in Avengers: Doomsday. Additionally, improved CGI would undoubtedly enhance their performances as these iconic Hulks.
23) Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie
Tom Hiddleston is set to reprise his role as Loki in the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday.” Photos from the film’s production suggest that the Time Variance Authority will make another appearance. This scenario presents an excellent chance for Sophia Di Martino to bring back her character, Sylvie, who developed a strong connection with Loki during his solo series on Disney+. If Sylvie appears in “Avengers: Doomsday,” she might share insights about the multiverse’s condition since she has more information than many other characters. Her presence could potentially lead to the return of Owen Wilson, Wunmi Mosaku, Ke Huy Quan, and others as well.
22) Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie
Chris Hemsworth, known for playing Thor, was the first actor announced to reprise his role in the upcoming Marvel film titled “Doomsday”. This suggests that New Asgard, which was introduced in previous Marvel films, might be featured again. Since Tessa Thompson’s character Valkyrie, who is the ruler of New Asgard, played a significant role in defending her people in the 2022 film “Thor: Love and Thunder”, it’s likely she will appear in “Doomsday” as well. Valkyrie has previously fought alongside other heroes like the Avengers against Thanos, which could mean she might have a larger role in “Doomsday”. However, it seems that Natalie Portman’s character Mighty Thor may not be part of this new film.
21) Chris Pratt as Peter Quill’s Star-Lord
2023’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” concluded with Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, leaving the title team and returning to Earth, where he reconnected with his grandfather. The movie ended on a note suggesting that Star-lord will return, and it seems that “Avengers: Doomsday” could be the ideal platform for Chris Pratt’s character to make a comeback. Although Quill doesn’t have any inherent superhuman powers, he is an accomplished fighter, seasoned leader, and has extensive knowledge about cosmic events within the MCU. His return to the Avengers could potentially bring great value, and it’s possible that his former Guardians of the Galaxy allies might join him as well.
20) Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector’s Moon Knight
Personally speaking as a movie enthusiast, ever since Moon Knight, played by the talented Oscar Isaac, made his magnificent debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’ve been eagerly anticipating his return. His character, Marc Spector, has become one of my favorite new additions to the MCU.
It would be thrilling if Moon Knight were to reappear in an upcoming blockbuster like Avengers: Doomsday. However, given his recent focus on street-level issues within the MCU, it might be challenging to fit him into the grand scheme of things.
Now, imagine the powerhouse matchup between Moon Knight and Doctor Doom! With Doctor Doom’s godly powers, a confrontation with Spector would surely be spectacle worth witnessing. And if we’re lucky enough to have Layla El-Faouly’s Scarlet Scarab (May Calamawy) joining the fray, it could make for an even more exciting showdown!
So, here’s hoping that Moon Knight gets another chance to shine in the MCU soon!
19) Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange
In 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed Doctor Strange, the Master of the Mystic Arts, as he journeyed through various universes, gaining a deep understanding of multiversal principles and ideas. This extensive exploration paved the way for an anticipated role in “Avengers: Doomsday.” However, it’s surprising that he hasn’t been officially announced to participate yet. At the end of the previous film, Doctor Strange and Clea (played by Charlize Theron) ventured into the Dark Dimension to halt an incursion. It would be exciting if they reappeared in “Doomsday” to accomplish their goal and potentially prevent further incursions and confront Doctor Doom.
18) Benedict Wong as Wong
Should Doctor Strange and Clea reappear, it’s plausible that Benedict Wong’s character Wong would also feature in “Avengers: Doomsday”. Given his role as the present Sorcerer Supreme, Wong is a significant figure in the MCU and could potentially be a target for Doctor Doom during his power-seeking pursuit. Wong has been instrumental in “Infinity War”, “Endgame”, and “Multiverse of Madness”, making it exciting to see him again in “Doomsday”. His potential return could showcase more of his abilities, potentially leading him to form a team, and even experience the consequences of Doom’s actions.
17) Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch
In “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Wanda Maximoff’s potential demise was hinted at, but her possible appearances in “Agatha All Along” and the upcoming “Vision Quest” series suggest a return for her character in future stories like “Doomsday.” Since Wanda is a significant character in Marvel Comics alongside Doctor Doom, it’s plausible that her role as his wife could be developed in Phase 6 of the MCU. With Joe Locke playing the reincarnated Billy Maximoff and a new Tommy Maximoff expected to debut with Paul Bettany’s Vision in 2026, it seems likely we might witness a Maximoff family reunion.
16) Paul Bettany as Vision
If the Scarlet Witch reappears, it’s likely that Vision might make a comeback as well, given that Paul Bettany is slated to return as the white-version of Vision in the upcoming series “Vision Quest” in 2026. This series, a spinoff from “WandaVision” (2021), may debut before the release of “Avengers: Doomsday” in December 2026. In this scenario, Paul Bettany’s solo series could serve as an ideal prelude to his character’s involvement in “Doomsday”. It’s also clear that Vision, being a vibranium Avenger, would be valuable in the battle against Doctor Doom.
15) Tom Holland as Peter Parker’s Spider-Man
Tom Holland is at present filming “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start,” set for release in July 2026, where Peter Parker’s Spider-Man will join forces with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in the streets of New York City. Given that Spider-Man is due to return to action just before “Avengers: Doomsday,” it’s expected that “A Fresh Start” will lay significant groundwork for the crossover in Phase 6, suggesting Tom Holland will probably feature in the Russo brothers’ next Marvel Cinematic Universe installment. Spider-Man demonstrated his considerable value in “Infinity War” and “Endgame,” and he’s only grown stronger since then.
14) Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams’ Wonder Man
In December 2025, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in the Disney+ series “Wonder Man.” This role positions him perfectly for a part in “Avengers: Doomsday,” given that he portrays Wonder Man, a powerful new character with aspirations of stardom. As such, he’ll play an essential role in the battle against Doctor Doom. Initially unconfirmed for “Doomsday” due to the delay in the release of his series, this is no longer the case.
13) Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton’s Hawkeye
Following an extraordinary healing process post his 2023 snowplow mishap, Jeremy Renner is poised to resume his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) duties as the archer hero Hawkeye, aka Clint Barton. Despite periodically retiring from superhero life, Barton still has some thrilling escapades left in him. With Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback and Chris Hemsworth already confirmed for Doomsday, it would be fantastic if other original Avengers team members also rejoin the action. Additionally, Barton acts as a guide to one of the MCU’s most promising new characters, which may signal an expanded role for her in Doomsday, as well.
12) Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye
In the 2021 series “Hawkeye,” Hailee Steinfeld teamed up with Jeremy Renner as Kate Bishop, a dedicated archer who admired the Avenger and eventually learned from him. Towards the end of the Phase 4 series, it appeared that Clint Barton was passing on the Hawkeye role to Kate Bishop, potentially positioning her as a key character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future. She might even join forces with the Young Avengers, hinted at in 2023’s “The Marvels.” If the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday” comes to fruition, Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye could emerge as the natural leader of the Young Avengers.
11) Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams’ Ironheart
The latest live-action series from Marvel Studios on Disney+, titled “Ironheart,” introduces Dominique Thorne’s character Riri Williams following her debut in the 2022 film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Given her connection to Letitia Wright’s Shuri, who is set to appear in the upcoming event “Doomsday, it seems likely that Riri will reappear. The finale of “Ironheart” saw Riri striking a deal with Mephisto (played by Sacha Baron Cohen), which may lead to unexpected and exciting dark turns for her role in “Doomsday“.
10) Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel
In the upcoming movie, “Avengers: Doomsday,” we can expect to see the Young Avengers team join forces, featuring characters like Kate Bishop, Riri Williams, Billy Maximoff, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Skaar, and others. Notably, Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani, will play a significant role in this storyline. This character is one of the key figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and will likely help connect the old and revamped MCU following “Avengers: Secret Wars.” After teaming up with Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau to save the universe in “The Marvels,” it’s highly probable that Ms. Marvel will rejoin them in “Doomsday.
9) Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau
At the conclusion of “The Marvels”, Teyonah Parris’ character Monica Rambeau found herself stuck in an alternate reality populated by the X-Men, including Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, who is set to appear in “Avengers: Doomsday”. Given that a multiverse-spanning tale is unfolding, it seems likely that Monica will reappear in “Doomsday”, as it would seem illogical to delve into a story traversing different realities without revisiting the one where Rambeau currently resides. This scenario might explain why multiple X-Men members have been confirmed for “Doomsday” – maybe Monica is stranded on Earth 10005 – and would pave the way for another intriguing character to make a comeback alongside her, adding even more excitement to the series.
8) Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau’s Binary
During the Blip, Earth 616’s Maria Rambeau, the original character, passed away, but versions of her have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) already. Unfortunately, Lashana Lynch’s Captain Marvel, who was a part of the MCU, was killed by the Scarlet Witch in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” However, in the recent movie “The Marvels,” her Binary variant, who worked with the X-Men, was introduced. Exploring this alternate reality, where Monica Rambeau got trapped, could provide Lashana Lynch with a chance to further develop and strengthen Maria’s Binary persona. This could establish her as one of the MCU’s strongest new characters, and give Lashana Lynch a more significant role in the franchise.
7) Famke Janssen as Jean Grey
To date, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammer, and Channing Tatum have all been announced as reprising their X-Men characters in the upcoming film “Doomsday.” Notably missing from this list is Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey. Given that her character didn’t receive a satisfactory portrayal of the Dark Phoenix in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” it’s only fair that she gets another opportunity to shine and make amends for any past missteps. Here’s hoping that, before Marvel Studios introduces a new actress to play Jean Grey, they give Famke Janssen a chance to reprise her iconic role.
6) Halle Berry as Ororo Munroe’s Storm
Storm, another well-known X-Men character, wasn’t initially announced as part of the cast for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Neither Halle Berry nor Alexandra Shipp has been officially confirmed to reprise the role yet. For a long time, there have been rumors about Halle Berry returning as Storm, but in Fox’s X-Men series, she didn’t have an opportunity to fully demonstrate her near divine powers. Given that Earth 10005 was revisited in “Deadpool & Wolverine” and several other X-Men characters have already been confirmed, it would be great to see Halle Berry back as Storm before the role is handed to someone else.
5) Hugh Jackman as Logan’s Wolverine
In regard to Deadpool and Wolverine, Hugh Jackman recently revealed some workout videos, potentially hinting at his future role in Avengers: Doomsday. After parting ways with the Wolverine character post-2017’s Logan, Jackman reprised his original Earth 10005 hero in Deadpool & Wolverine and may return to this role in Doomsday. Comic enthusiasts eagerly anticipate a live-action portrayal of Wolverine and the X-Men faithful to their comic costumes, and Doomsday appears poised to make that dream come true before another actor steps into Jackman’s shoes; thus, fans hope he’ll appear once more.
4) Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson’s Deadpool
Having Deadpool alone without Wolverine for a reunion seems challenging, so it’s logical that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool character should also make an appearance. The duo of Deadpool and Wolverine broke records in 2024 as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever made. Given this success, another appearance from the popular anti-hero Deadpool seems almost certain.
While Ryan Reynolds is currently working on a new project featuring Deadpool and X-Men, it would be intriguing to see Deadpool collaborate with the Avengers and other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) heroes as well. A potential crossover event like “Doomsday” could bring Deadpool back together with the X-Men while introducing him to the broader MCU cast.
3) Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Despite the letdown of “Secret Invasion” in 2023, Nick Fury remains one of the most influential characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) storied history. He was instrumental in assembling the original Avengers, making it exciting to imagine Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role for their next adventure, particularly with Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback. Given Fury’s involvement with SABER in “The Marvels,” he possesses knowledge about the MCU’s cosmic and multiversal abilities, which could be vital to “Doomsday.” After his contentious Phase 5 escapades, Fury is due for a comeback, one that solidifies him as a powerful hero once more.
2) Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter
Previously, there were whispers that Hayley Atwell might be associated with “Avengers: Doomsday,” but Marvel Studios has yet to publicly verify it. Back in 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” Atwell first appeared as Peggy Carter, and she last portrayed this original version of the character in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” It’s plausible that Peggy Carter may reappear, but it’s also possible that Atwell could take on a Captain Carter variation of her character, who has been depicted in both animation and live-action within the MCU. In essence, if Atwell does join “Avengers: Doomsday,” she might play a Captain Carter character, similar to Steve Rogers’ Captain America, adding an interesting twist to the team.
1) Chris Evans as Steve Rogers’ Captain America
Following the surprising announcement that Robert Downey Jr. would rejoin Marvel, this time portraying Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man, fans started wondering about other possible returns. Although Chris Evans had been silent on the prospect of reprising his role as Captain America since his exit in “Endgame”, he appeared as Johnny Storm’s Human Torch in the 2024 film “Deadpool & Wolverine”. This paved the way for him to potentially appear again in “Avengers: Doomsday”, possibly as the Human Torch, Captain America, or a different character altogether. We hope to see all the original Avengers back together, so there’s a chance Scarlett Johansson could join too, but only the future can confirm this.
