Just a month after Cardi B shared the news that she’s expecting her fourth child – and her first with boyfriend Stefon Diggs – she’s spoken about what she fears most as a parent.

Cardi B, who has three children – Kulture, 7, Wave, 4, and Blossom, 13 months – with her ex, Offset, recently shared some advice on the *On Purpose* podcast with Jay Shetty. She urged listeners not to be lazy, explaining that many people possess the potential for success – including talent and intelligence – but fail to achieve it due to a lack of effort.

Even though she’s remained famous for much longer than the typical ’15 minutes,’ she doesn’t want her children to rely on her or their father’s accomplishments.

She urged listeners not to define themselves by their upbringing. Instead, she encouraged them to forge their own identities and become someone they could be proud of.

Cardi B wants her children to be successful, but she doesn’t care what careers they choose. She explained that she’s working incredibly hard so her kids have opportunities, and she expects them to make something of themselves with those opportunities.

You know, as a parent, one of the biggest things I want for my kids is for them to surpass me. It’s funny, because there are so many things *I* can’t do, and my greatest hope is that they’ll be able to achieve those things – and so much more. I truly want them to be smarter, more capable, and ultimately, a better version of myself – a hundred times better, if possible!

Cardi B was motivated by watching her mother, Clara Almánzar, work diligently, and she hopes to provide the same strong work ethic example for her own four children.

She wants her children to remember her as a hard worker. She explained that she hopes they’ll one day say she worked tirelessly every day and earned everything she achieved, and that she wants them to strive to be the same way for their own children.
