Hailee Steinfeld will always be part of her Sinners family.
Though she didn’t attend the 98th Academy Awards on March 15th, the singer of “Capital Letters” showed her support for the film’s team on Instagram. She highlighted cast member Michael B. Jordan, director and writer Ryan Coogler, and cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, all of whom won Oscars that night.
The 29-year-old, who is expecting her first child with husband Josh Allen, also celebrated Ludwig Goransson’s win for Best Original Score for the Sinners soundtrack.
The actor, known from Pitch Perfect, also posted photos from the event with Ryan Coogler’s wife, Zinzi Coogler, who helped produce the film. Ballet dancer Misty Copeland was also there, and her performance included moves inspired by the film’s choreography.
Although Hailee wasn’t at the Oscars, her co-star Michael acknowledged her – and Wumi Mosaku, who played a love interest alongside him – when he won Best Actor. Both Hailee and Wumi played the love interests of Michael’s characters, Smoke and Stack.
Michael, speaking at the Dolby Theatre after being nominated alongside Timothée Chalamet, Wagner Moura, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Ethan Hawke, expressed his gratitude to his cast. He thanked Wunmi for allowing his character, Smoke, to fully embody himself, and sent thanks to Hailee, who is expecting a baby, for being the supportive other half of his character, Stack.
For Hailee’s part, she has also emphasized how much being part of Ryan’s film meant to her.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, the actor from Edge of Seventeen said they felt incredibly inspired after finishing the film Sinners. They described the movie as an opportunity they’d been working towards, allowing them to grow as an actor.
And, of course, it gave Hailee the opportunity to work with an incredible cast, including Michael.
Hailee described her costar as having a warm and welcoming presence. She explained that he created a comfortable and secure atmosphere on set, encouraging everyone to take risks, be open, and not worry about making mistakes.
As she put it, “He’s a good time.”
